Vegan Spirituality visits Ironwood Pig Sanctuary

I've scheduled for us to get a tour then do a couple of hours of volunteering! We will arrange carpooling.

A tour of the sanctuary is a 1 to 2 hour walking tour through the various fields. You will be out in the sun for the entirety of the tour. Please consider the following to make your visit pleasant:

*Wear comfortable walking shoes.

*Wear a hat.

*Wear sunscreen.

*Bring a water bottle. Refills are available.

The Ironwood Pig Sanctuary is dedicated to eliminating the suffering of pot bellied pigs in Arizona and surrounding states by promoting spaying and neutering, assisting owners and other sanctuaries, and providing a permanent home in a safe, nurturing environment for those that are abandoned, abused, neglected, or unwanted.
We are home to almost 600 pot bellied pigs.

More details to come! http://www.ironwoodpigs.org

Directions from Central Tucson DO NOT USE THE MARANA EXIT - The road we call Power Line that has a road sign named Hedge Hog that is called Amber Sunrise on some of the mapping programs IS NOT PASSABLE due to our summer storms. Please use the following directions.

For your planning purposes travel time from Central Tucson is about 1 1/4 hours. There are about 4 miles of dirt roads. Cattle Tank and our lane are in good shape and passable with any size vehicle.

Do not use any mapping programs or your GPS because the date base they all use is not correct. We are in a very rural area and you need to use the following directions. You might be able to use your GPS to identify these turns but do not use it for directions. Please follow the following directions carefully.

Take I10 West (Towards Phoenix) to the Red Rock exit #226. Exit at Red Rock. At the end of the Red Rock exit ramp make a right turn and go about 50 feet and then make an immediate left turn onto the frontage road. You will again be heading towards Phoenix but on the frontage road which is beside I10. Go about 1 1/2 miles and turn right on Park Link Road. Go a total of 8.2 miles on Park Link and turn right on Cattle Tank road. You might want to check your odometer to alert you when you get close to the Cattle Tank turn. Just in case you think you have missed the turn you will know that you aren't there yet based upon your odometer. The turn is well marked. Cattle Tank is dirt. There are some bumps so drive carefully. Slow for the cattle guard. Cattle Tank and our lane are both passable with any vehicle. Go south on Cattle Tank 3.1 miles. As you near the 3.1 mile point watch for a yellow real estate sign on the left. Our lane is just on the otherside of the palo verde tree from this sign. There is also a sign for our lane but it is blocked by the same tree. Turn left just beyone this tree down our lane which is Crystal Visions. You will see the road sign once you make the turn. Go about 0.7 miles. We are on the left. You can’t miss our sign at the front of the sanctuary. The gate opens inward from the left. Lift the inside pin on the left to release the gate. You may go into the Visitor Center to wait for the tour and use the rest room.

Good morning! If you would like to carpool you can meet at my house near Broadway or Columbus, or Viki's closer 22nd and I-10. Please let us know if you plan on meeting either of us to carpool.
It takes about an hour and 15 minutes to get there so we should all plan on leaving Tucson at the absolute latest 8:45, but I'm aiming for 8:30.

The tour of the sanctuary is a 1 to 2 hour walking tour through the various fields. You will be out in the sun for the entirety of the tour. Please consider the following to make your visit pleasant:

    Volunteering afterward!

If you want to carpool let's meet at David's and my house (4362 E 16th St) at 8:30am on Saturday, Dec 3rd (a week from this Saturday) so we can get to the Sanctuary by 10. We will need volunteers to drive. I believe we can take two more in our car.
    Looking forward to it!
