Come join us for a mini pub crawl around Tufnell Park + a filthy dinner at Dirty Burger!
A good opportunity to discover and promote our local boozers, to catch up with old members and meet the new ones :)
You can tag along whenever you want, see estimated schedule below (we'll do our best to respect it, but expect possible 10-15 min delays). Don't hesitate to bring your friends and call if you're lost (I'll send my phone number to all members who have confirmed on the date of the event). We'll have Meetup signs on the tables so that you can spot us easily.
Here is the proposed planning of the evening:
To start nicely, after your long day at work, you should try one of the best and cheapest Guiness in London at the Boston Arms.
Boston Arms: 6:00-7:00 - 178 Junction Rd, London N19 5QQ.
This pub looks a little bit grim from the outside, but the atmosphere inside is very relaxed and friendly. Everybody's always welcome in this pub. Also they have free pools, super cheap drinks and their policy regarding closing / serving times is very loose if you happen to be, like me, quite often desperately looking for a late pint. Also they play all sort of sport games on their TV screens if you're into it.
Then we'll walk to the Southampton Arms.
Southampton Arms: 7:10-8:30 - 139 Highgate Rd, London NW5 1LE.
This pub is one of my favourite in the area. Quite small, relaxed, unpretentious, very friendly atmosphere with regular customers, great beer garden (but be careful: apparently they release their puma if you dare staying outside when they close the garden at 10pm). They have a wide selection of locally brewed English Ales and Ciders. Their pints are incredibly cheap compared to London standards. Last time I went I paid £3 something for a pint. I never had the chance to be there at the right time, but apparently they have crazy piano / singing sessions some evenings.
N.B. Cash only.
Then we'll indulge our stomachs with a dirty, but nonetheless yummy burger at Dirty Burger.
Dirty Burger: 8:30-9:30 - 79 Highgate Road, London NW5 1TL.
If you live in the area and have never been to this place, you must try at least once, it's one of the highlight of the neighborhood to me. It's hidden round the back of Pizza East, on the car park of a fitness club, so very easy to miss. It's literally a shack where you order at the bar and help yourself with drinks, napkins, sauces etc. They have draft American style Ales from our local Camden Town Brewery. People seat around a unique, big table to eat dirty, juicy burgers and crispy fries. Their burgers remind me of the ones I used to eat in the U.S., with juicy beef patties and a lot of melted cheese, sauce and pickles.
N.B. I'm not sure about veggie options, I will check with them and let you know asap.
Then we'll have a short digestive walk up to one of the best pub in the area, the Pineapple.
The Pineapple: 9:45-11:00 - 51 Leverton St, London NW5 2NX.
This charming pub, hidden in a small backstreet between Tufnell Park and Kentish Town, almost shut down a few years ago but have been saved by locals who wanted to keep this institution open. There is a very friendly atmosphere in this cosy pub, a lot of locals, all ages, all styles. They have a nice beer garden. We won't try this time, but they do very good traditional thai food and they host all kind of events (open mics, cheese tasting, vinyl nights, quizz, etc). (you should also try their companion pub in Kentish Town: Tapping the Admiral: very lovely pub too).
The Pineapple closes at 11pm. For the survivors, I'd suggest walking back to the station and having a last drink at Aces and Eights. They close at 1am.
