Kent, renown for its blissful beauty, is known as the ‘Garden of England’. Our journey begins in the village of Ashurst where we will swiftly encounter rolling hills, woodland and fields, sampling the aromatic aromas of country farm life and admiring the vibrant wild flower and fauna. Further along the trail we’ll approach Hoath Corner, a charming conservation area with listed buildings that reflect the status provided to the High Weald as an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’. We will briefly settle here for refreshments in a charming watering stop - centuries old and quintessentially English! Steeped in history, we’ll pass through Chiddingstone, a delightful village that it is believed, takes its name from a large sandstone rock formation, situated on its outskirts. Tradition asserts that the stone was used as a seat of judgement, mainly to remonstrate overbearing local wives. Starting in the village of Knockholt our hike will head across a golf course, fields and woodland as we clamber up and down rolling hills, offering fabulous panoramic views of the distant High Weald and London skyscape. After enjoying lunch from an impressive hill viewpoint the walk will journey across the M25 and deeper into Kent, via the quaint village of Shoreham for a pub pit stop. Our trail will then head easterly into North Downs Way territory where more hills will be conquered, before our journey pops out of the woodland cover to further spectacular views, with our final end hostelry in site. Archaeologists have uncovered evidence of Bronze Age, Iron Age, Roman and Saxon activities in this area.
