Seaford

£45.00

6 hours of incredible of spectacular hiking wrapped up in local history. A great day out.

The white cliffs will draw you into a simply stunning picturesque hike with breath taking sea views. In my opinion giving the best six hours the South Downs has to offer……….and the South Downs offers a lot. William Blake was inspired so much by the South Downs that when he wrote the words of “Jerusalem” (the song so passionately belted out before England play rugby) the reference to “England’s green and pleasant land” is widely held to be in reference to the South Downs. You will see why he made this area England's spiritual heart, our "heaven on earth".

The hike with its rolling valleys will make demands of you physically. The rolling valleys make it a definite intermediate walk for the south coast. Add a back pack and you have got yourself an inspirational expedition training day. The Sisters will also captivate you emotionally. It is not just the huge wide cliff landscapes that add a thud to the heart beat but the little historic stories set in the milestones of this country's past that reach out to you as you walk.

Artic Training Weekend

June 10th- June 12th 2022
Dartmoor
Price: £249 per person

This expedition skills weekend is for those looking to expand their wild frontiers and boldly go into the Arctic Circle in a safe and environmentally-conscious way. This info-packed weekend runs in Dartmoor and will upskill the novice to the experienced wild camper alike. You will gain not only core expedition skills such as basic campcraft, expedition packing and expedition cooking but advanced skills such as calling for help from remote areas, river crossings, polar bear behaviour awareness and signs of cold-induced illness. You will be able to talk to your instructors and decide if the Arctic is for you before incurring huge travel costs. During the weekend you will experience the fantastic camaraderie among your fellow expeditioners as you work as a team on polar bear watch.

The course is aimed towards arctic summertime conditions. It will provide an ideal foundation for those taking on treks such as the Arctic Circle Way in Greenland and other popular treks across northern Scandinavia.

On the first night you will camp by a pub allowing us to meet and greet and check your equipment. In the morning we will cover core expedition skills and run a polar bear behaviour seminar. We will then depart on a one night wild camping expedition as if we were in an area populated by polar bears. On returning to our vehicles we will cover cold weather clothing, equipment and signs of cold weather illness.

Snowdonia 19th of August (early afternoon) - 21st August(noon)
Price £245 per person / per weekend

The British mountains are synonymous with fresh air, invigorating hikes, hearty meals and local craft ales. On Mountain To Tavern we go to areas that have all these in abundance. These popular long weekends of mountain hiking, inclusive accommodation and socials, return twice in 2022. Turn Wild will be returning to the lake District in July and to Snowdonia in August. Two classic British mountain areas to enjoy, experience and be social with like minded folk. As always there is limited availability so book early to avoid disappointment.

The mountains are calling and I must go.
— John Muir
These mini-adventures can trigger the beginning of your hiking independence. There is an opportunity to learn the basics of route planning, navigation and mountain safety. But this is not a navigation course. For those who would rather zone out and go with the flow of professionally planned days, that is totally fine as well!

No hill walking or mountain experience is needed but the ability to walk for around six hours per day and gain about 500m in steep elevation at a moderate pace is required.

Camping skills are also not a requirement as your tent will be provided and put up for you. However this is a true expedition weekend and you will experience how to break down a camp and experience being part of a team. We will be on hand to help you put up your own tent if you wish to bring your own.

Whether you choose to ascend up to 3500m in four days in Snowdonia, or explore steep valleys formed by glaciers in the Lake District, you will gain a sense of accomplishment as you do it entirely self-sufficiently – carrying all your food and equipment on your back. Your professional guide will lead you to take on the hills safely so you are free to take in the incredible vistas.

Previous experience is not needed as our professional team will guide you through your pre-expedition build up step by step.

It is not the mountain we conquer but ourselves.
— Sir Edmund Hillary
The Lake District provides a softer natural beauty but with steep valleys carved by glaciers it provides just as much of a challenge with slightly less emphasis on ascent. It offers some incredible wild camping, hearty meals and local ales aplenty in its mountainside inns.

The outdoors is proven to de-stress and clear the mind; both expeditions will send you back to civilisation mentally refreshed and ready to go.

Prepare Prepare Prepare - this is the mantra of a successful expedition. Turn Wild is here to remove the stress and the guesswork out of your expedition preparation. Just put in the basic physical training, allow us to tailor your equipment choices according to your budget, follow our nutritional recommendations and you will be ready to go.

Going on The Great Escape in the Lake District was challenging and rewarding in equal measure. It gave me the confidence to go out and push my outdoor skills to the next level. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking to advance their skills in the outdoors, witness some outstanding views or just eat a lot of guilt-free cake!
