Maiden Rock Bluff: Hike and Trail Maintenance

We welcome you to join us for our first ever hike and trail maintenance trip to the Maiden Rock Bluff State Natural Area located on the bluffs overlooking Lake Pepin between Maiden Rock and Stockholm, WI.

The WI DNR has given us permission to maintain their trail. It's a win-win situation as they won't have to send people down from Menomonie to clear the trail and we'll be able to do brushcutter training on a trail that is the closest thing to the Border Route that you'll find without driving to the North Shore.

No experience necessary. We'll train people in on the use of a power brush cutter and and the hand tools used for any limbing, etc. While a chain saw will be used for cutting deadfalls, we require that operators have USFS chain saw operators certification.

We'll meet at Swede Hollow for breakfast and depart for Maiden Rock at approximately 9:00. Bring a day pack, bag lunch, water bottle, leather work gloves, long pants, and sun screen. We'll provide all tools and safety equipment plus 4 to 5 gallons of water for the group.

This event is co-posted on the Friends of the Border Route Trail MU Grp.

Questions? Feel free to call me at[masked] or email me via the TC Hiking MU Grp.

Ciao,

Ed

I like how secluded that trail was and how knowledgeable Ed was with the equipment and I enjoyed meeting people with my same passion for hiking.

Excellent people, decent weather, plus great views overlooking Lake Pepin.

As we'll be car pooling in separate vehicles, there is a high degree of flexibility. It's roughly a 75 min. drive from the Twin Cities. I would expect us to finish up on the trail by early afternoon. The Nelson Stone Barn Pizza opens at 5PM so some of us may want to go there afterwards. As I say, the return time is flexible - expect anytime between 3:30 and 9:00PM dependent upon your car pool.

What time can we expect to be finishing up and returning to Swede Hollow?
