In order to use a Two Person Cross Cut Saw on a trail maintenance trip you need to be certified by the USFS. This will be the only certification opportunity in the Twin Cities in 2013. At present we are not aware that certification will be offered in N.E. Minnesota this year.
US Forest Service trainers will once again come down to Bunker Hills Park (http://www.anokacountyparks.com/parks/bunker_hills_regional_park/about.html) in Blaine, MN. Sessions are held in the Bunker Hills Campground Visitor Center.
Space is limited to 30 participants, so sign up soon. Be sure to answer the questions giving us your full name, contact info: email address & phone #, and organizations (TCHMU, BRTMU, Rovers, etc.)
A copy of the Chain Saw and Crosscut Saw Training Course Student's Guidebook (http://www.fs.fed.us/t-d/pubs/htmlpubs/htm06672805/toc.htm) is available as a pdf download from the United States Forest Service.
We'll be outside in the afternoon so wear clothing appropriate to the weather, plus leather boots and work gloves. Saws, Hard Hats, Hearing Protection, Eye Protection, and safety Chaps will be provided.
You may also want to consider attending the Chain Saw and Brushcutter familiarization course to be held on Sunday, April 7th. We'll teach you the basics of running both pieces of equipment safely and effectively and give you a head's up on what to expect during the Chain Saw Certification process.
