Guide/Instructional Services and Midwest Mountaineering Coupon

Hey Climbers,

I spent Labor Day weekend in South Dakota and happened to land in the same campsite as Chris Hesselbein, a climber that I see around the Twin Cities gyms and all over outside.  He and I have talked in the past about his desire to guide, lead, and teach people in the past, but we had done little climbing together.

Having never been to SDak before and only having the Mountain Project phone app at my disposal, I was psyched to discover that Chris knew half the place like the back of his hand, and had books and notes about the other half.  The first day I climbed, he pointed out a dozen or so climbs to us and then went off to do his own nearby.   We met him in another area a couple days later and did the same.

Chris led me and another guy up the back side of what you see on the left, Classic Crack at Sylvan Lake.

Chris impressed me with his climbing ability on both sport and trad lead, with his safety practices, and his knowledge of the areas we climbed.

If you are looking for a good resource for correct knowledge, check out Chris' link or email him through Meetup.  Chris wants to help the climbing community and maybe make a buck or two.  Don't we all, but that's between y'all.  I'm just saying, he's worth a look.  Here's the link:

In my quest for sponsors using the Benefit Card, I've come up flat.  But, it's lead to other offers.  Like this coupon that is good for any Meetup climber that prints it out and uses it on September 14.  Midwest will offer us a coupon like this twice a year.  Maybe we can vote on a date for the spring that works for the most people just before the season starts.  For now, it's next Friday!

Here are some upcoming dates, check the calendar for details:

Sept 9: Sandstone

Sept 13-14: Reel Rocks

Sept 21: North Shore

Sept 22-23: MCA North Shore Cleanup

Sept: 29: Among the Wild

Oct 5-7: MCA Blue Mounds Gathering/Cleanup

Oct 18-21: MEA Weekend

Fall is the perfect time to climb outside.  Enjoy!
