  • GameNight! Goes To The Oakdale Library On The Third Thursday Of Every Month!

The Oakdale Branch Library has been holding a adult monthly GameNight! session for awhile in their meeting room. They get a dozen or more regular boardgame players each month, and new members are always welcome! Come play table top games with fellow game enthusiasts! The library will provide games ranging from Uno and Connect Four to Splendor and Carcassonne, or you can bring your own to share. There's always lots of variety, and something for both new or experienced adult gameplayers. Lately, we have been moving to the nearby Hy-Vee Market Grille restaurant, half a mile away, after the library closes at 8PM. This lets us grab a bite to eat and drink (they serve alcohol!) and play some more games. Joining afterwards is voluntary, but socializing is a chance for more fun.... If you want to get your GAME ON! in the east metro area, this is your chance. We'll hope to see you on one of these upcoming 3rd Thursdays to play some boardgames with us at the Oakdale Branch Library! Roll for initiative!.... Your Meetup co-hosts, Chris Hoppe, and Natalie E. TTFN. ~~~ ~~~~ ~~~ P.S. - GameNight! session is in their meeting room to the left side as you enter the library. Call the Oakdale Library Branch at (651)[masked] for more information.

  • Trip Planning Session... Co-Travelers WANTED For A Trans-Mongolian Railway Trip!

Please join Xavier, myself, and (hopefully) several others for a Trans-Mongolian Railway travel planning session at Como Park in Saint Paul. We are proposing to travel the Trans-Mongolian Railway from Beijing to Moscow during June, next year. The Meetup will explore and discuss costs, itinerary, dates, side trips, and all other aspects of such a big trip. The expected length is 18 days, start to finish, traveling through three major countries: China. Mongolia, and Russia. Passports and Visas will be required. Approximate cost is about $3000, plus air fare. This is a big one! Such a complex trip needs lots of pre-planning, so let's get started by finding out how many people are interested in the idea in the first place. A hour and a half of conversation to talk over the many details, expectations, and other plans seems about right. Como Park is an excellent place to gather and do some pre-planning. I suggest that we do our Meetup at the Zobota Cafe, which is located inside the main Zoo/Conservatory building. They have seating, food, beverages, and are near some parking that should be convenient. Afterwards, there is another of Bobby's picnics at the nearby Como Park picnic grounds. That starts at noon. If we would like, our conversation can be continued there with anyone who wants to join us later for more discussion about the train trip. BTW.... I organized this for eleven different Meetup groups. If you only see my RSVP, don't worry - there will be a lot of people from Meetup to congregate with and talk together. All are welcome, it's an inclusive event for everybody. Just drop in, Meetup with others and have a good time! See you at the Como Park trip planning session! your Host/organizer, Chris Hoppe TTFN!

  • GameNight! goes to the Twin Cities 400 Tavern! (every 4th Sunday of each month)

If it's Sunday, it's GameNight again! For the fourth Sunday of every month, we have a reservation for the group at the Twin Cities 400 Tavern... in Minneapolis! Expect Good food, good drinks, good servers, a good location, and good ambiance. (OMG, we are going to cross the river, visit the enemy to the west, get lost in the outskirts of the cities...) LOL! Actually, I found this newly remodeled hotel restaurant/bar just over the border... in the area by where I-35W, Hwy. 36, and MN Hwy 280 all sort of meet and get tangled up in the industrial park between the twin cities. You won't even need a passport! It's a nice place with a large meeting room area just for us to use all night long. Good menu, good bar and beer selection, I really hope you will like it, it has a lot to offer. Here is some website and menu information... https://www.tc400tavern.com/ https://www.tc400tavern.com/lunch-dinner-menu/ https://www.tc400tavern.com/bar-menu/ (And as always, please remember to tip your servers generously!) So, you ask... Why Move GameNight!™ to a new place every week? Because I want to stir up the humdrum regularity of the same place every week routine that GameNight! got into after being a Meetup for over six years, that's why! Sure the games are often new, and always fun, and it's great to see all the regulars who show up often enough that we usually have over twenty to thirty or more players on any given Sunday night. But getting out of the house should be special, and a new spot to enjoy every week will help do just that. Plus, there's no law that says we can't go back to a favorite place from the past. One more thing... you are welcome (and encouraged) to suggest a location that you'd like to see used for this series of Meetups in the future. Saint Paul area has been where we have met usually (scattered North, South, East, and elsewhere in town), but I am open to anywhere that is popular with the group members. So make a comment below to let me know what and where YOU want to play boardgames, okay? How our Boardgamer Meetup group works is simple: I always bring a bunch of my games that I think are good for our group. Old, new, hard, easy, weird, you name it. The folks who show up pick or suggest what they'd like to play... Enough people, and we can play several games at once. Easy-peasy, it's just like a democracy! (But more fun.) What's next and new? We shall see. Bring anything you'd like to play (and maybe teach to the group). We could even go back and replay a game that we liked before. Imagine that! See you there, and remember what Wil Wheaton says... "Play more games!" Your host, Chris Hoppe TTFN! • Important to know Go to the back of the restaurant, we have a reservation for their party room. Look for the host ... (Chris Hoppe,[masked] if you need to text/talk to me for more information) ... get a nametag, meet some new gameplaying friends, and have fun!

  • GameNight! - Board Games and a Brewery, Hosted by Adam Rehberg, at LTD Brewing

Adam Rehberg is now hosting a series of gamenights located at a number of local breweries here in the metropolitan twin cities area. As a local boardgame designer, he is a great person to play games with, some of which would even be made by him! I bought all of his previously created games (Brewin' USA and Truck Off) and am looking forward to his soon-to-be-released next game. Not bad for a side job! (He otherwise works for a major retail store chain.) Adam know the good breweries too... this monthly series will play every first Monday of each month at the LTD Brewery, located in beautiful downtown Hopkins. A nice choice, especially if you are partial to their sour experiments, or any of the other brews they offer. Her is a link to more details about LTD... http://ltdbrewing.com/ And here is a link to his Meetup profile... https://www.meetup.com/members/146951912/ (check out all his events at The Twin Cities Board Games Group) So with a nice place to play boardgames, tasty beverages to enjoy, and the friendship of other meetup folks (there were about a dozen people at the last one...) you should have a great time. Whether you are a newer player who wants to learn what this crazy boardgame stuff is all about, or an old hand who has been playing for years, we'd love to see you there. You can't have fun unless you go! RECAP... WHAT: Board Games and a Brewery WHERE: LTD Brewing WHEN: 1st Monday each month starting Oct 1st from 6-9 pm. WHO: Anybody!
