• GameNight! Goes To The Oakdale Library On The Third Thursday Of Every Month!

The Oakdale Branch Library has been holding a adult monthly GameNight! session for awhile in their meeting room. They get a dozen or more regular boardgame players each month, and new members are always welcome! Come play table top games with fellow game enthusiasts! The library will provide games ranging from Uno and Connect Four to Splendor and Carcassonne, or you can bring your own to share. There's always lots of variety, and something for both new or experienced adult gameplayers. Lately, we have been moving to the nearby Hy-Vee Market Grille restaurant, half a mile away, after the library closes at 8PM. This lets us grab a bite to eat and drink (they serve alcohol!) and play some more games. Joining afterwards is voluntary, but socializing is a chance for more fun.... If you want to get your GAME ON! in the east metro area, this is your chance. We'll hope to see you on one of these upcoming 3rd Thursdays to play some boardgames with us at the Oakdale Branch Library! Roll for initiative!.... Your Meetup co-hosts, Chris Hoppe, and Natalie E. TTFN. ~~~ ~~~~ ~~~ P.S. - GameNight! session is in their meeting room to the left side as you enter the library. Call the Oakdale Library Branch at (651)[masked] for more information.

    Big Louie's Bar and Grill

Here is their menu link: http://biglouiesbarandgrill.com/files/bl/menu.pdf Here is their main website link: http://www.biglouiesbarandgrill.com/ We generally play "modern" board games as opposed to old standards like Monopoly or Scrabble. Bring yourselves! LOL ... and maybe any friend who you'd also like to play boardgames with. • Important to know P.S. .... Look for the boardgamers with piles of cardboard game boxes nearby. • GRAPHIC NOVEL BOOK CLUB: We'll Discuss A Different Selection Every New Month

Every month we read a new graphic novel (or set of comics in a series). There are about 10-12 regular members, so you are very welcome! Our moderator is Matt Reins, an enthusiastic reader of all types of comic and graphic novel books. He guides the roundtable discussion and usually provides a 1-2 page synopsis of the current month's selection. Here's a link to the Nokomis library webpage list of events (including this book club)..... https://hclib.bibliocommons.com/events/search/fq=branch_location_id:(NK) .... .... .... .... Extra copies of the current month's selection are provided, and held at the front counter, by the library staff to be checked out for a whole month as a convenience to the club. There are mini-flyers on display telling what the upcoming club selections are, that will be read in the coming months. Read ahead if you wish, or just come and discuss the month's selection with the group. .... .... .... .... ....A BONUS FEATURE! We have "show and tell" at the end to share more good recommendations for reading of other graphic novels that might be of interest to club members. • RUNOFF for GameNight! on the First Sunday: Stay at The Exchange.... or SWITCH???

If it's Sunday, it's GameNight! again! BUT!.... there is a recent contender for this monthly event! For the first Sunday of every month, we have a standing reservation for the group at The Exchange Food & Drink, in New Brighton. BUT!.... Last month a newbie got the chance to have a FIFTH SUNDAY/WILD CARD event and we held a GameNight! at The St. Paul Tap. Most of the 20 or more people liked the new place, so I am holding a competition to see who is our most UNLIKED GameNight event. The location with the LEAST support drops out, and The St. Paul Tap steps in. This is the last chance to show your preference to meetup each month at The Exchange. HOW? .... By showing up. I will hold a vote of all those who attend whether to keep going there or switch to the new contender. There are three possible location that could get demoted.... The Exchange in New Brighton, The Union 32 CraftHouse in Eagan, or The 400 Tavern in Minneapolis (on the border with Saint Paul). Come to what might be their last time as a GameNight! meetup, VOTE for your favorite, and may the better bar/restaurant WIN! (the rest of the old information follows....) I am kinda excited about this spot that I recently found. It's located towards the North side of Saint Paul, has a nice party room just for us, offers a full bar and very reasonably priced food selections. Classy place too. Heck they even have a shuffleboard table... FREE! I hope you want to check it out and will like it as much as I do... Here is a link to their website: http://exchangefoodanddrink.com/ And here is a link to their menu: http://exchangefoodanddrink.com/menu As always, a quick reminder that the best way to ensure our host knows we appreciate the use of their comfortable, fun, place to play our boardgames ... ... is to order a bite to eat, something to drink, and to tip our server generously. We take a lot of time to be waited on for a whole evening, they provide a nice atmosphere and lots of amenities, so be nice back. It's good karma! Question... Why Move GameNight!™ to a new place every week? Because I want to stir up the humdrum regularity of the same place every week routine that GameNight! had got into after being a Meetup for over five years, that's why! Sure the games are often new, and always fun, and it's great to see all the regulars who show up often enough that we usually have over twenty to thirty players on any given Sunday night. But getting out of the house should be special, and a new spot to enjoy every week will help do just that. Plus, there's no law that says we can't go back to a favorite place from the past. One more thing... you are welcome (and encouraged) to suggest a location that you'd like to see used for this series of Meetups in the future. Saint Paul area has been where we have met usually (scattered North, South, East, and elsewhere in town), but I am open to anywhere that is popular with the group members. EVEN MINNEAPOLIS! So make a comment below to let me know what and where YOU want to play boardgames. How our Boardgames Meetup group works is simple: I always bring a bunch of my games that I think are good for our group. Old, new, hard, easy, weird, you name it. Regular members bring some of their own games to play, which gives us more than we ever need to fill the time each night. Then the folks who show up pick or suggest what they'd like to play... We always have enough people, and we can play several games at once. Easy-peasy, it's just like a democracy! But more fun ... so what's gonna be next and new? We shall see. Bring anything you'd like to play (and maybe teach to the group). We could even go back and replay a game that we liked from before. Imagine that! See you there, and remember: "Play more games!" Your host, Chris Hoppe TTFN! Final note: Text/call Chris if you need any help:[masked]
