FREE Reading @ SubText - "Earth in Anger" by Jim Lenfestey

I think this group's overdue to make a trip to SubText in St. Paul, and in light of recent news, this reading is very appropriate at this time.

From the event announcement:
"Poet and journalist Jim Lenfestey premiers his latest collection of poems Earth in Anger: Twenty-five poems of Love and Despair for Planet Earth, at Birchbark Books, sponsored by Birchbark Books, The Loft Literary Center, introduced by Heidi Erdrich.

Jim Lenfestey's "carries the grief of the world" in this painful,"important" book, says Heid Erdrich. bringing to climate change and species destruction the poetic passion Robert Bly brought to the Vietnam War."

Hope to see you there!

There is a good chance I won't be making this one. I will shoot for the June 7 reading at the Walker Church which is a wonderful place to hear a reading, if you never been there.

By the way, this Sunday at 6:30 is the Barbaric Yawp open mic at The Coffee Grounds. If you like a place to read your work, this is it. Look them up on facebook if you are interested. Mr. Dean, you should give this a try.

Sure wish I could be there -- but I will be volunteering at the Cedar Cultural Center. Hope I see some of you tomorrow, Tuesday May 21, at the poetry reading at the University Club on Summit Ave. I and the four other St. Paul Sidewalk Poetry winners will be announced. I'd love to have a few folks I actually know to sit with. :o)

A quote from Jim Lenfestey concerning the Boston Bombings:

The object of people like these bombers it to distract us is from the real work, to turn us from the path that brings us here, the necessary heart work and soul work that poetry demands. We will not let them win, we will not be distracted. It is easy these days to build a crude bomb. It is difficult as ever to build a strong poem. Let us listen to poems, not bombs.
