What we're about

UAE Rock Climbing MeetUp mission is to promote the Rock climbing sport and UAE outdoors.

Through our events we help everyone to be a safe, independent and skilled climber for outdoors environments.

This meetup is also a community of like minded climbing enthusiasts that keep connected, help each other and organize events together.

All events will be posted here on MeetUp and will have limited slots (depending on the trip leaders that are available). The requirements to partecipate are indicated in the events published, but in general the participants are ideally a little familiar with the outdoors, have at least done some hiking and been in the mountains or hills before.

Rock climbing is a sport for everyone, whether you’re boy or girl, fit or fat, long or short. Everyone can do it. The physical engagement can be compared to a full body workout in a gym, and there are always climbs for everyone ability, beginner or advanced.

Being a sport though, you need to check your medical preconditions and if you suffer any illness consult your physician before you entertain in this.

Please feel free to contact the leadership team with any questions or to provide any suggestions that you may have to help improve the services provided to the group.

See you on the rocks!

At course completion you shall be admitted to the Graduates Group of the UAE Rock Climbing Meetup. A forum/chat with lots of other climbers that passed at least the lead climbing module successfully, ensuring therefore only people with proper training are on it. This trip will be limited to 4 participants only to ensure each person has adequate supervision and time for training.

Before the course starts, the organizer will check your ability in using (1) a GriGri (or equivalent) and (2) a figure 8 knot and reserves the right to not admit you to the course, should you not show confidence in these two basic requirements.

-------- LOGISTICS ------

We will be climbing from 10am until at circa 4pm. As such, we all need to meet at 9:30am at the meeting point. We will then drive the the crag (climbing area) together. We will spend the whole day at the crag. There are no shops or facilities nearby as we will be in a mountain wadi. You will need to bring lunch, snacks, water, drinks, etc for the day. You should also dress appropriately for being outdoors whether you prefer long sleeve, short sleeve shirts, shorts/pants, is your own preference but definitely have a jacket and maybe wool hat and gloves in case it gets cold or rains. We still will climb if cold and even if rain is not too much. Also bring appropriate sun protection, i.e. sunscreen, lip balm, sun hat, sunglasses.

You should have sturdy shoes for walking in the wadi to the crag but you may want sandals or flip flops while hanging around at the crag in between climbs. I also recommend to bring a camping chair so you can sit and relax when not climbing or belaying.

If you have climbing shoes, harness, helmet please bring them. If you don't have climbing shoes then plan to wear solid sneakers or hiking shoes. weak/flimsy shoes will be no good and neither will big, bulky hiking boots. If you don't have a harness or helmet I will have extras on hand. All other gear and equipment will be provided.

If you don't have a car, feel free to write here, if someone has a car to pull you along.

If you have any questions please feel free to let me know and I look forward to seeing you on the rocks!
