What we're about

Calling all cancer fighters, survivors, caregivers and supporters! Come join our exciting new dragon boat team! In Chinese culture, the dragon is a symbol of strength, power and luck. The popular ancient sport of dragon boating is a great way to escape, exercise, and engage with others on a new journey. Success comes when 20 paddlers, one steersman, and one drummer work together in complete harmony. Each person physically contributes to the success of the team and over time, teammates learn to rely upon and support one another. Together you grow, persevere and overcome. Practices will be held on beautiful Lake Fairview in Orlando. Led by experienced dragon boat coach Sally Florsek, a cancer survivor herself, this new dragon boat team is designed to help you: • Unwind — Get away from the stress of dealing with cancer and its after effects, plus enjoy the outdoors on a beautiful lake.
• Empower — Take control, learn something new and make friends as you work together towards a common goal.
• Strengthen — Improve your physical health and well-being, and feel the strength of 20 paddlers moving as one across the water. Support and inspire each other to learn and live life to the fullest! No experience is necessary and this is open to all fitness levels. The first practice will be held on Sunday, July 24th at 9:30 am at the Orlando Rowing Club, 2200 Lee Rd, Orlando, FL 32810. Only a simple physician waiver is required. Beginners are welcome and are encouraged! The boat is sponsored by UF Health Cancer Center- Orlando Health and your contact will be the Integrative Medicine Department: For more details call the Integrative Medicine Department on 321.841.5056 or email Integrativemedicine@orlandohealth.com.
