Silas’s has always been involved with property and first started work as an Estate Agent in 1997 at the age of 18 dealing with residential property for around 7 years at the same time studying to become a Building Surveyor.
In 2004, Silas worked in Birmingham city centre as a trainee Building Surveyor gaining accreditation to the RICS in June 2007. During his time working for different practices, he was privileged to work on a number of sizeable commercial projects, including the renovation of a four storey Listed city-centre office building (project value c. £125,000), the development of a storage and distribution warehouse plus offices at Dove Valley Park in Derby (project value c. £4 million) and another similar project (c. £4.5 million) at Ascot Business Park, Derby.
Whilst working on these projects, Silas gained invaluable experience working with builders, contractors, sub-contractors and other project professionals such as quantity surveyors and architects.
Throughout his youth, Silas developed a passion for residential refurbishment and improvement by helping his father to extend and renovate properties. He quickly realized that a normal job would not be his calling and in 2007, left work and decided to pursue a career as a property investor successfully building and managing a cashflow-positive, buy-to-let portfolio bringing financial independence.
Recently, Silas realized the potential to help other property investors by ‘de-mystifying’ the world of surveys and valuations by setting up his own surveying practice. By understanding the needs of investors, Silas has been able to assemble a team of competent surveyors across the Country who are able to provide the necessary information for them; namely the current market value of a property and the ‘back-end’ valuation i.e. what a property is worth after it has been refurbished.
Silas prides himself on being able to guide investors through the surveying minefield and ensure that the surveyors are providing them with the right information for their needs. In a market where properties are consistently being downvalued, this is particularly important. Silas also aims to protect investors as much as possible by ensuring a competent professional carefully checks the property to ensure that it is structurally ok and there are no problems that could cost a substantial amount to rectify.
