  • Learn how to use a laser cutter to cut, etch, and engrave designs in a variety of materials up to 20x 12" and up to 1/8" thick in this Safety and Basic Use (SBU) class. Work with acrylic, wood, paper, cardboard, fabric, leather, and even chocolate!

    Members can be upgraded to take this class free in our DIWO Do it with others classes.

    Please bring laptop. We have Fios wireless internet. Information on our Full Spectrum 40 Watt CO2 20"x12" Hobby laser can be found here.

    For those who do not already know or have vector graphics software, we will use the Free Inkscape software. Please download it and become familiar with it at

    Prerequisite(s): None. However, familiarity with graphics software will be helpful.

    Equipment access: Laser cutter

    Minimum age: 14 years

    Supervision requirements: During class, all 14 to 18 -year-old students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is also enrolled in the class.

    When using the laser cutter outside of class time, 14-18 -year-old members must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or guardian who has passed the SBU.

    Safety: Closed-toed shoes are mandatory.

    If you become a member of our club, you can use this equipment for your projects whenever you work at UMakers!
