Hike Assistant: Steve
This hike will happen rain or shine. If I can do a 16 mile, 42 staircase stairhike in the rain, you can do this short 4.5 mile stairhike!
This stairhike is a two part stairhike. You are welcomed to do both.
Part 1. 9 staircases. The first route will give hikers a general idea of the layout of the stairs in Silver Lake. The first six staircases come fast and furious. Then a walk brings us to two more staircases. Then we go downhill to get the last staircase in Part 1. From here you can choice to continue onto Part 2 or walk down Silver Lake Blvd back to Lamill, our starting point.
Part 2- 5 staircases includes the tough three part Swan Stairs, but before hitting Swan we will go up a staircase, then turn around and get a beautiful view of the Silver Lake Reservoir. Then we hit the Swan stairs-3 different staircases, about 300 total steps. Afterwards, we'll hit our last staircase. Then back to our starting point, Lamill Coffee. We can stop in at MILK for some very good ice cream!
We do not go up and down the same staircase. If people want to do that, jump on a stairmaster!
We try not to backtrack during the route. Sometimes this can't be helped or we backtrack to go up staircases.
No matter how long a staircase maybe, I count that as one staircase until we cross a street.
Attendance is limited to 40 people, because anymore than that leads to bottlenecks on staircases and a very slow walk.
Difficulty: 7 Moderate pace.
Duration: 2.5 hrs
Distance: 4.5 miles
Departure time: 2 p.m. Sharp
What to wear : Comfortable walking or running shoes
What to bring: Bring min 1.5 L water, hat, sun screen and camera.
Where to find free parking:
Silver Lake Blvd is free parking on Sun. You may have to walk a few blocks to find free parking.
You can also park on West Silver Lake Blvd. The signs only says permit parking AFTER 11pm. That doesn't effect you to park for this hike.
