    Venue Description:

Every State Park in Mendocino County offers a specific focus that makes it Best-in-Class for visitors with that specific interest. While there is plenty of overlap – beautiful coastline, towering redwoods, or remote locations – each tends to be a gem in one area.

Russian Gulch State Park is one of the Mendocino Coast’s most popular hiking destinations – in large part due to the majestic 36 foot waterfall midway on its main loop trail. This waterfall cascades down during the winter and spring months, and is still active during the drier summer and fall. The Devil’s Punch Bowl is another exciting feature – one of the best blowholes on the Mendocino Coast.

With a wonderful rocky beach, a protected inlet perfect for kayaking, year-round camping, miles of well-groomed hiking trails, and an educational hike through the rare Pygmy Forest, Van Damme State Park is an outdoor-lover’s dream come true. The highlight of Van Damme is its incredible scenic network of trails through the Fern Canyon. These will take you through primordial redwood forest, with hillsides covered in different species of ferns, and into the Pygmy biome.

Jug Handle is the Educational Park. While other State Parks in the area offer information on local species, or some educational opportunities, for Jug Handle this is really the driving focus. Jug Handle has one of the most beautiful beaches on the Mendocino Coast, as well, easily accessible via a staircase leading from the upper parking lot.

Glass Beach is one of the Mendocino Coast’s most unique and photographic destinations. Located at the north end of Fort Bragg, this historic dumping site has become an incredible testament to the beauty the natural world can craft even out of refuse.
