In a time where standard design methodologies and process are so accessible to all, do we run the risk of becoming too repeatable, structured and systematic? Do prescribed and repeated methods run counter to the ethos of creativity and the magic of making something from nothing?
With companies like IDEO, Apple, Airbnb, and Google sharing and elaborating on their processes and guidelines, are we as designers becoming addicted to following a playbook? Crafting cookie cutter user flows and going through the motions of filling out persona templates we found online?
In an industry that is evolving so rapidly, is it safe to rely on tried and tested "best practice" techniques? A process that proved successful today could be unworkable and impractical tomorrow.
At this UX meetup, we would like to have an interactive discussion about the design process as a whole. What is working for some of us and more importantly what are the fundamental principles and values of these methodologies that are truly timeless?
