Dear UX Friends:
The User Experience Professionals Association of Los Angeles (UXPA-LA) is about to elect a new Board of Directors to hold officer positions, and we want YOU!
There are six open positions on our newly expanded Board. Those elected to the Board will then be elected to one of the following officer positions:
- Executive Director – provides organizational direction, leadership and facilitation of meetings, coordinates events with other SoCal UX-related organizations, improves LA UXPA’s visibility in the community.
- Director of Member Communications – promotes LA UXPA events on Meetup, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
- Director of Events – arranges for all event logistics, including selection and delivery of food and beverages, procurement of necessary sound, recording and other equipment, creation of event signage, etc.
- Director of Partnerships - procures sponsorship partners and venue partners and negotiates details of such agreements.
- Director of Programs – responsible for polling members regarding topics of interest, interviewing and selecting event speakers, and coordinating engaging programming for 3 – 4 events per year with the support of the entire board.
- Director of Student Outreach – responsible for identifying key faculty and student liaisons at SoCal educational programs, ensuring students are aware of LA UXPA activities and encouraging student chapters of UXPA.
In addition, the following two positions will roll over:
- Past Executive Director - as the current Acting President, I will automatically move to the position of Past Executive Director for the next two years.
- Finance Director (formerly Treasurer) - Mickey Way will continue in this position for another term (thank you Mickey!).
Board positions usually require between 2 - 8 hours per month, last two years, and all officers must be paid members of UXPA International (you may join or renew after winning your post).
What should you do if you decide to run? Just submit your name,
a picture (optional, but it helps to remind people who you are), and a brief (100 - 200 word) candidate statement outlining your background or perspective on UX and why you'd like to serve on the Board. Candidate submissions are due by Sunday, 9/9 at midnight PDT, and elections will be held by online poll shortly thereafter. Bear in mind that while every attempt will be made to put you into your preferred position, you should be somewhat flexible as officer positions are elected or appointed from among those elected to the Board.
Email me directly if you have any questions.
Thank you all for your involvement in making our world's User Experience better and better!
Best,
Kathryn
