Discussing Articulating Design Decisions

Agenda

6:00pm: Socializing & hanging out

6:30pm: Book discussion

8:00pm (approx.): More socializing & finishing the beer off

At our July meetup, we'll be discussing “Articulating Design Decisions: Communicate with Stakeholders, Keep Your Sanity, and Deliver the Best User Experience” by Tom Greever.

“Every designer has had to justify designs to non-designers, yet most lack the ability to explain themselves in a way that is compelling and fosters agreement. The ability to effectively articulate design decisions is critical to the success of a project, because the most articulate person often wins.

This practical book provides principles, tactics, and actionable methods for talking about designs with executives, managers, developers, marketers, and other stakeholders who have influence over the project with the goal of winning them over and creating the best user experience.”

You do not need to read the book to attend and participate in the conversation. Everyone is welcome to discuss the topic and share personal experiences, even if you're not familiar with the reading material.

Note: The book is only available on O'Reilly because it's an early release. Get 50% off with the code WCYAZ!

FUTURE STUFF ~

You can vote for the September book selection here (TBD). Polls will be open until August 7th.

We're looking for space for next month's August meetup! Reach out to Christina if you'd like to volunteer space for the group to meet.

Hi everyone! The final version of Articulating Design Decisions has been released in print. If you read the book, please consider posting a review on Amazon. http://amzn.to/1VD6dMp

I will be in Seattle in February. I'd be happy to stop by your workplace to lead a discussion with your team. No cost, just a chance to share experiences communicating with stakeholders. If interested, email me at [masked] - Thanks!

I just wanted to follow up and say thanks to everyone for discussing my book at this Meetup. If you ordered the Early Release from O'Reilly, the final version is now available in your account. Also, please write a review of the book on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Articulating-Design-Decisions-Communicate-Stakeholders/dp/1491921560

Thanks again! I hope it has been helpful for everyone.

Great meet up tonight, thanks for organizing Christina! You mentioned something about choosing next months book through a poll... Where would that be? (Otherwise I totally vote for either Mike Monteiro book!)

I wish I could attend this one, but have a class on Tuesday. It's amazing how many times someone explaining their design decision would tell me "it just doesn't feel right". Now that I'm entering the design field myself, I feel how important it is to be able to communicate and account for your design decisions. Thanks for bringing this topic in!

I'd like to add that you can also access the early release if you have a subscription to Safari Books online (so not just available through O'Reilly's site...)

I'll be in Portland doing Pabst Fest / Brewer Fest / OSCON like some kind of drunk hipster. My reading is going downhill.

Hi everyone! I can't actually attend, but I wanted to say hello and show my support. Have a great evening! I am speaking at OSCON in Portland next week, if you're nearby.
