On the uke, he performs mostly early 20th century Hawaiian music written by the early greats like Ernest Ka`ai and George Kia. He also likes to perform tin-pan-alley music on the uke. Other styles in Jay’s repertoire include blues, classical (e.g. Bach), rock, pop, jazz and folk on the uke.

Jay has been playing music since 1983. His other main instrument is the classical guitar, on which he not only plays traditional classical music, but also bossa nova.
