Hike to Gertrude's Nose in Minnewaska State Park

Why come?  The spectacular views just go on and on!!

Intermediate hike because of distance and terrain - not for beginners.

Total distance:  7 miles round trip

Elevation change:  550 feet

Hike will be done at a relaxed pace - no one will be left behind.  This does not mean the hike will be easy.

We'll head out from the upper parking area at Lake Minnewaska, using Lake Shore Carriageway, Millbrook Mountain Carriageway, and Gertrude's Nose Trail to reach Gertrude's Nose. Many outstanding views along the way and at Gertrude's Nose! We'll eat lunch at Gertrude's Nose, then return by a different route, probably using a carriageway.  Much of the hike is on trails, not carriageways, so hiking boots are highly recommended.

You must read and agree to our liability waiver before signing up and participating in this event:

What to bring: $8 per car park entry fee, plenty of water, lunch, sunscreen, bug repellant

Directions to hike (follow link):

The park's website:

Cancellation info: if the weather looks doubtful, I'll email the Yes and Waiting List people the evening before the hike.

I can see why that trail is so popular with so many people. It has such variety-rocks, narrow overgrown trail, great views, ups and downs.

Think this one is a bit too much for me. Last year I did the Giant ledge (barely). I have done huckleberry point and black creek this year but nothing like 7 miles. Hopefully will be able to join you all soon!
