Catskills Hike to Giant Ledge

Level of hike:  intermediate

Distance:  3.8 miles round trip

Terrain:  Extremely rocky trail (but not rock scrambling) for first 0.75 mi; elevation gain of 1100 feet

What to bring:  Water, snacks, lunch, sunscreen, bug repellant

Map:  NY-NJ Trail Conference #42 (may be 142 in newer mapset) - Central Catskills

Relaxed pace - no one will be left behind.

The main attraction of this hike is the spectacular views from Giant Ledge, which is actually a series of eight ledges looking in various directions.  The mountains of the Central Catskills are on display!  Plan to bring a garment to shield you from any wind, as the ledges are quite exposed.  I plan to allow plenty of time at the ledges to drink in the views.

Although this hike is not long in distance, the rocky trail combined with elevation gain make it not be a beginner hike.

Directions to trail head:  http://www.meetup.com/Ulster-County-NY-Outdoors/messages/boards/thread/22897482

GPS coordinates for the trail head can be accessed on the map above.

Cancellation info:  If there is a possibility that the hike will be cancelled due to weather, etc, I'll send email the evening before the hike.
