Christoffer Edlund and Johan Burström from Umeå University ICT Services and System Development (ITS) will show how ITS use convolutional neural networks to find passport information in a huge amount of scanned and photographed images.
This application of machine learning allows the Swedish Council For Higher Education (UHR) to save a lot of time previously spent manually screening student applications for higher education in Sweden. This saves money and gives the students a faster and better service, for example when determining whether the student must pay application and semester fees for studying in Sweden.
