Childcare - RSVP
Each year we hold a congregational meeting to discuss the past year's business, to learn about what to expect in the coming year, and to honor outgoing board members and confirm new our new ones.
The meeting won't take too long and good attendance is important for a successful meeting!
Meet your new board members!
Born in the Van Dam family General Store in Noordwijk, Netherlands, Maria moved with her family to Wichita, Kansas, where they had relatives. From there, the family moved to Clearwater, Florida, where Maria attended high school for two years, and then to Daytona Beach and then to Canton, Ohio, then to Michigan, and now, here she in Clearwater again. She has a brother who is an educator in the Ohio school system. Maria has a daughter in Ohio and a grandson.
Maria has served in the insurance business and is the owner of a gift shop in Michigan. She has been a seeker for Truth in all the paths she has walked, including studies at the University of Toledo, Ohio and various groups of fellow seekers. She was the one with “too many questions” in the Newman Club for Catholic youth, and also found the company of fellow seekers in Al-Anon. She found Unity in Travers City, Michigan. Maria has been a serious spiritual seeker all of her life, looking for the place where she would “fit in.” Visiting Clearwater, years ago, she looked up the phone number of our Church, came through the doors that Sunday, and has felt at home here, in mind and heart, ever since. She says that our Church was the major element in her decision to relocate in Clearwater.
She has served on a number of Boards of Directors: historical, artistic, and community development. She is “solution focused,” and her strong feeling that “we make our world” calls her to become involved wherever she feels called to serve, and we are delighted and richly blessed!
Born and raised in New York, Pat Crogan spent her childhood years in Whitehall, birthplace of the U.S. Navy then moving to Watervliet (waw-ter-vleet) in her high school years. After attending the wedding of a relative in Dunedin, she and her husband John (then, fiancé) also visited Disney World and Clearwater Beach, where on the balcony of Adam’s Mark (demolished in 2005), they decided that Clearwater would become their home. They have lived here since 1993.
Employed for 16 years by Citibank in upstate New York as a mortgage processor/sales assistant, Pat continued in the mortgage business for the next 17 years, the final five years in the employ of Wells Fargo Mortgage. She first came to Unity Church of Clearwater in 2011 at the invitation of her hairdresser and has rarely missed a Sunday since. “I still cannot wait for Sunday to return and soak in some more Unity knowledge. I absolutely love my new discovery. Besides that, Unity is the only place where I can sing and people don’t tell me to be quiet!”
In addition to volunteer work at Unity (she assists in scheduling volunteers every Sunday in the café), she also spends a lot of time at the non-profit group, "All Dog Rescue of Florida" (that was developed by her daughter, Jill Marie) attending events and assisting in dog adoptions.
Pat’s strong connection to Unity teachings and philosophy are evidenced every morning as she wakes up with a Unity song in her head, as well as in her habit of playing back on the Internet services she has already attended. What a blessing Pat and John are to us!
