What we're about

Unleash your Creativity - Rotorua! is a group for creatives across the ages, abilities, and disciplines - from painting, drawing, and photography, to writing and poetry. The focus for this group is focusing on creativity and the artistic journey regardless of ability.

Being creative and accessing our artistic side is essential for self-expression and emotional well-being. To that end, this group aims to foster a community of creative types coming together to discuss their artistic practices and creativity in general, to network, to collaborate, and to learn.

The early stages of this group will focus on meet and greet networking opportunities, and will later open up to activities such as studio sessions, photography outings, creative collaborations, art events, and maybe even a group exhibition. Suggestions for group activities are welcomed, as are expressions of interest for co-organisers to organise and manage their own events when the group is more established.

I look forward to meeting fellow creatives in Rotorua.

A bit about me: I was born in Auckland and moved to Australia when I was 12 with my family. I'm a fully qualified and registered Art/Film/English teacher for secondary school in Queensland. As well as teaching High School Art, I have also taught Primary School Art and Special Education Art, and Kindergarten Art - all of which are delightful and liberating, as young children create art with such abandon and unselfconsciousness. My main art forms are painting and photography, and I have recently returned to writing poetry. I love to sing and take great pleasure in music, having worked for Opera Queensland behind the scenes in the past. I also have skills in construction, especially working with wooden structures and am keen to start working with sculptural forms.

Creative Walk n' Talk

Mt Ngongotaha Nature Loop

Kia ora fellow creatives! Philosophers, Artists, and great thinkers have long espoused the value of nature as a conduit to creativity. With that in mind, I have organised a creative Walk n' Talk in the lovely surrounds of Mount Ngongataha. The route we will be taking is the Nature Walk. "The Nature walk is a 3.2Km looped track which provides easy access to the forest for people of average fitness". I've walked it at a leisurely pace and have found it very easy. Please bring water, a snack, and any medications / puffers / antihistimines that you might need. Looking forward to meeting some more fellow creatives :-) ************** 'It is the marriage of the soul with nature that makes the intellect fruitful, and gives birth to imagination'.
