We are a nonprofit and specialize in programs that are free or donation based, open to the public, and are all-ages/abilities friendly! If we can't provide the info, education, or gear you need, we'll find it for you! Our mission is to provide access to outdoor adventures for all through events and programs that empower individuals, create healthier communities, and foster a respect for the environment.

3rd Saturday Adventures: Ute Valley Park

3rd Saturday Adventures are back! Join UpaDowna for a new hike in a new location each month followed by a post-hike beer provided by our sponsor Old Colorado City Brewing.

We are headed to Ute Valley Park for a 3-mile hike! This hike is rated as easy and is open to all ages and activity levels. All minors must be accompanied by an adult for this event. All are welcome for lunch and a post-hike beer at Old Colorado City Brewing. Must be 21+ to drink.

Goals for this program include connecting people with their natural surroundings in their community, connecting participants with other community members, and helping to foster a level of comfort with exploring new spaces.

Wear sturdy shoes, bring sun protection, and water.

Do I have to have past hiking experience?

  • No! UpaDowna welcomes all activity and ability levels. We will have staff and volunteers with you along with you the entire way!

Are dogs allowed?

  • We love our furry friends, but please keep them at home! Some hikes may not allow dogs and we also would like to keep a welcoming environment for those participants who may not be comfortable with dogs.

Am I allowed to bring a friend?

Yoga in the Park

Event Details: Yoga in the Park is back! Join us at two different parks this summer as we take some time to slow down with our all-level Yoga in the Park.

Yoga in the Park is a pillar of our Summer Series Program. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned yogi, join us for this all-level one-hour class while being surrounded by the beautiful site and sounds of the outdoors!

Occurs every other Thursday from May to September, starting 5/12. The location will rotate between Nancy Lewis Park and Thorndale Park. See below for schedule and meeting point.

The mission of our Summit Series Program is to empower individuals to reach new goals for their health and wellness and to challenge their comfort zone by participating in fulfilling and rewarding adventure activities and classes.

Schedule & Meeting Point:

  • Thorndale Park: 5/12, 6/9, 7/7, 8/4; Meet at Pavillion near corner of Uintah and N 24th St.
  • Nancy Lewis Park: 5/26, 6/23, 7/21, 8/18; Meet at Pavillion located on Melissa Dr.

*Note* Registration for each class will open 1 month in advance.

Event Cost: Donation-based event. Recommended $12 donation/per person. Please donate what you can afford!

Intro to Climbing Night

What: "Intro to Climbing", a donation-based class

Why: To encourage all ages and abilities to try the fun and fulfilling sport of climbing!

How: Choose the amount of tickets you need. Please try to limit it to 4 or less. Have 4 or more people? Contact us for a private session!

Goals:

  • To help individuals, couples, or families experience a new adventure sport in a safe and fun environment.
  • To help individuals overcome a fear of heights by providing helpful and friendly encouragement.
  • To overcome as many barriers as possible (cost, equipment, location, knowledge) in order for all ages and abilities to try climbing.

Event Details: You are invited to join UpaDowna for a first hand tour of CityROCK Climbing Center and Intro to Climbing Class. This class is designed for folks that have never been to CityROCK, are new to climbing, or just getting back into it. You'll get a tour of the facility and learn the basics of climbing taught by seasoned climbers from UpaDowna. We are stoked to offer you this amazing, donation-based package, complete with climbing gear rental, expert instruction from CityRock and UpaDowna staff, and discount coupons to The Ute & Yeti, a $150 value!

Cost: A $15 donation per person is suggested, but feel free to donate what you can afford!

UpaDowna Intro to Climb Night participants can take advantage of having their membership initiation fee at CityRock waived if you sign-up for a membership with CityRock within one month of taking our class!

Please note: This event is now open to all ages. Children under 18 MUST be accompanied by an adult at all times. You MUST fill out a CityROCK climbing waiver for every person in your group prior to arriving and MUST watch the safety video upon arrival. Climb Night starts promptly at 6pm. It is HIGHLY recommended that you arrive 15 minutes early to check in. If you arrive later than 6pm, you may not be able to join the class. If you have already attended an Intro to Climb Night, please do not sign up again for the same class.

Summer SUP Kickoff

Event Details: Summer is here! Join UpaDowna for our open SUP Summer kickoff. All equipment and instruction are included in your 1-hour standup paddleboard (SUP) rental! Participants can pre-register ahead of time to secure a time slot. Walk-ups will also be available on a first come, first serve basis!

The fun doesn't end here! This event will lead into Tuesday's (6/1) Pint Night at Cerberus Brewing where $1 of all pints will benefit UpaDowna!

Please arrive 10-15 minutes prior to start time. Pre-registered participants who arrive after 10 minutes past start time will forfeit their reservation. Forfeited reservations may be rescheduled to another time slot if space is available. No refunds may be issued if reservation is forfeited and participant(s) is unable to reschedule to another time slot.

Where: Quail Lake - Southwest side of lake. See map below

Parking: Parking is limited at Quail Lake. Allow for enough time to walk from parking to southwest side of lake. Please abide by all posted parking signs. Do not park in neighborhood across street from lake.

Cost: This is a donation-based event. A $15 donation per person is recommended. Please donate what you can afford. We will be accepting cash, credit card, Venmo, and check donation-based tickets for day of walk-ups!

FAQs:
Do I need to know how to swim?
- No. All participants will be required to wear a PFD at all times so don't worry if you fall. Nervous about being on the water? Out staff will be available to SUP alongside to make sure you are comfortable on our SUPs!

Can I bring my own board?
- Yes, Quail Lake is a public lake and we will be sharing the lake with other recreational users. You do not need to register if you bring your own board, but remember all personal watercraft users must purchase a daily non-motorized boat permit through City of COS. This does not apply to registered participants utilizing UpaDowna SUPs.

Can I bring a friend?
- Yes, but they will need to pre-register or as a walk-up.
