Monthly Meeting

This is one of our regular monthly meetings which is held on the second Wednesday of every month.

Guest Speaker & Topic:Mike Wojcik will be telling us about the different kind of filters available, their uses and why you might chose one kind over another.

Please plan to bring your themed image either on digital media like a thumb drive or CD or in printed form. Due to time constraints limit the number of photos you bring to two. Make sure to write down your settings for your image and prepare to share with the group some details about it as well.

What's in the Bag?: Chas Bridwell who does event & concert photography.

This month's theme: The 4th of July-Photos do not have to be taken on the 4th, but just be related in some way to the holiday.

Please get creative!

Note: You do not have to bring an image to participate in this meeting, but it would make it more fun!

I really enjoyed the meeting last night and I definitely learned some things. I look forward to being a part of more of your activities. Also, if there is anyone who might be willing to teach a novice photographer some things, I would love to soak up anything I can. It would be great to shadow or assist someone on photo shoots or even have someone willing to just walk around downtown or somewhere close by and give me advice on how to set camera for various situations. I have soooo much to learn!!

What would you like to learn? What do you like to shoot?

Chas, you are very knowledgable, makes me jealous...wish I could operate my Nikon D800 with that much talent.

Thanks Chas. My son will be getting out of the army in a couple of months. We both will contact you about some lessons. He has the Nikon D3100 to learn with and we hope to get him the D600 later.

I had attended this group several months ago for the first time and this was my second meeting. I've really enjoyed the information shared and the pictures. I look forward to meeting more of you and getting to know each of you.

My wife had an idea of maybe researching if we could meet in a church. Sometimes, as part of the churches community outreach they will open their doors to groups such as ours. Some churches will have a large meeting place that may even include an overhead projector.
We are new to the area, but wonder those who are not...is this something worth looking into?
Anyone attends a church that may be open to host this group?

Most Churches meet on Wednesday night...would another day be possible?

I'm in the process now of booking a meeting room at the library - looking at a Tuesday or Thursday night. I don't want to book the 2nd Tuesday of the month because that's been Spartanburg Photographer's Guild meets.

Today in the mystery object outing our group discussed the venue for the monthly meetup. There are two issues. Lack of space for participants and lack of time. We may have to look for a bigger pace in the future but can we atleast think of starting the meeting earlier at 6.30 PM instead of 7 PM. This will give us enough time to show and critique the photos and not feel very rushed towards the end. What do the members think?

Ravi we are currently in the process of trying to find a larger venue. I will contact Total Wine about changing our meeting time to 6:30 though - I think that's a great idea for the time being.

I know of a place that has a 200 seat auditorium and two rear projection screens. I do not know if they would allow it, charge for it or allow us to do photography for them in return...Check out Greenville Woodworkers Guild. Two members of UpState Photography are members of the Guild...Who would we have to approach them and see what can be worked out. It is in Mauldin....and Mauldin also has a community center ( and a great rustic cabin and park for outdoor photographs.) these two locations are about 2 miles apart.

    Kris

It looks like we are starting at 6.30 PM basing on the Header above and we did permission to start earlier, right.

    1 · July 2, 2013

    • Kris H.

Yes - we did get permission from Total Wine to change our start time to 6:30

      July 2, 2013

    • JackDaniel D.

That leaves time for shopping..which I am sure TW would appreciate.

Is the room at Total Wines free or is there a charge?

    June 30, 2013

    • ravichander

No charge to attend. Room is in the far back of the store on the right as you enter.

      June 30, 2013

    • Angie M.

We are not charged to use the room at Total Wine.

We are going to need a bigger room. Glad to have so many like minded people to hang out with.

Looking forward to takibg many reflection based photos this month to share at the next meetup!

    June 13, 2013

    • Angie M.

Reflections is not the theme for next month. I'm not sure of why that seems to be permanently in the description & has to be changed each month. The theme is "The 4th of July". This does not mean they have to be taken on the 4th, but just be connected in some way with the 4th.

      2 · June 14, 2013

    • Jennifer C.

Thanks for the update, Angie. Already took a few photos today for the 4th theme!

      June 15, 2013

  • Phil W.

    What's the theme?
