- IDEO Human-Centered Design 101: Kick-off and Sign-up Event
RIT Location to be announced! Right on campus for easy access by students. Kick off event for the IDEO certification program. Totally free program; form teams with students, beginners and industry pros working together. A fantastic way to get experience and meet local UX professionals. Time commitment is only about 3-5 hours a week. Get the word out as much as possible! Recruit team members! We want as many teams as possible having fun and working alongside Rochester’s best UX talent. Also, did I mention free certification from IDEO? If enough people participate we can follow 101 up with 201 (more focused on prototyping). Teams need to attend the kick off. Even if you already know the team you want, we want to make sure you mix some people of different experience levels in with every group.
- World Interaction Design Day 2018: Upstate UX and AIGA
World Interaction Design Day 2018, a collaboration between Upstate UX, AIGA Upstate NY, and IxDA. IxDA has events all over the world on this day every year, and this year our talks will be on the theme of "Diversity and Inclusion". Upstate UX and AIGA Upstate NY will be hosting the event for Rochester, with several amazing speakers to be announced. (if interested, please contact meetup organizer Dave Sutton) This event will be at a fantastic new venue for us at Makers Studio and (thanks to sponsors) we can provide food and drink to attendees to this FREE event! This is a bigger event for Upstate UX, so I encourage everyone to try to invite some folks from work/school and really get the word out. We all want to see that Upstate UX has the attendance to support these bigger events. We're all very excited with how this is coming together; you won't want to miss it!

- February Meetup: "Learning Experience Design at RIT" with Jeremiah Parry-Hill
Meet up and enjoy a great talk about "Learning Experience Design" from our own Jeremiah Parry-Hill. Jeremiah Parry-Hill is the Manager of Instructional Design in the Innovative Learning Institute at RIT. He'll talk about learning experience design as an emerging practice, the strange business of designing online courses, and the soon-to-launch Design Thinking MicroMasters on edX. Tonight's event will be sponsored by TekSystems. Enjoy some snacks and drinks and get to know your local TekSystems recruitment specialist. Tonights talk will be preceded by a quick introduction by Anthony Pitti (TekSystems) and a discussion about the current state of UI/UX opportunities he is seeing in the Rochester Area.
- November Meetup
It's the third Thursday of the month, so it's time to get together and talk UX! Let's make up for the recent missed meetups with a fun, relaxed evening at Nox! The cocktails here are fantastic, and the food is even better. This venue looks like it will be a great fit for our recent growth and our plans for more events. We'll even have the cozy private room behind the bar reserved for us all night! There's some REALLY exciting stuff being planned for Upstate UX and nobody will want to miss out on any of the planning or announcements; remember to invite friends and coworkers that would like to be a part of our great Rochester UX community.
- June Meet-up
Hopefully we'll get some updates on the progress of IxDA and UXPA. Let's get some drinks! I'll set the location as TBA, incase anyone wants us to do SPoT instead of something like Old Toad. Discuss in the Slack channel at http://slack.upstateUX.com
