- Showers for the homeless!
UDC strives to help out other like minded non profits in their journey also! SALT Outreach has its Showers for the Homeless outreach event every 2nd Sunday. They provide hot showers, hygiene care packages, a change of clothes, haircuts, a warm meal, and counseling! They need volunteers for the following tasks: Distributing Clothes from the Clothing Trailer: 3 volunteers Sort clothing and shoe donations: 3 volunteers Shower Trailer Duty - Monitoring time and cleaning after each shower: 4 volunteers Barbers 2-3 volunteers Volunteers willing to transport our homeless friends to the church: 3-4 Food Distribution: 3-4 Prayers and Conversationalists: 3-4 You can volunteer for the entire day or for 3-hour intervals: 9am-11am, 11am-1pm, or 1pm-3pm. We will be handing out personal care packages to the homeless in downtown Orlando. Just like personal items such as soap, deodorant, and toothpaste are important to you, it is just as important to people who dont have the ability or recourses to purchase them. This will completely change someones day. So if you'd like to sacrifice just two hours out of your Saturday afternoon to do something good then join us! Please message me if you have any questions.
- 13th Annual Hurricane Party!
Come out and party with us at Downtown Sanford's 13th annual hurricane party! Well be there repping UDC and selling t shirts and other cool UDC merchandise. There will be 5 stages of Reggae, rock, rap and other genres. Well also be collecting money for upcoming care package hand out event. - Update and New Board Member Recruiting!
What we'll do: We will be going over any new upcoming events and other volunteer opportunities, so if you've never been to one of our meetings then this the time to come and hear about what we are doing and plan to do within the Orlando Community. What to bring: Something to take notes on and a smile. Resume :) We are please to announce that we are actively recruiting a fourth Board Member to represent our mission to the greater Orlando community, assist with financial and strategic planning, and provide guidance and expertise to help increase our positive impact. This is a great opportunity for someone with a entrepreneur mind set who loves to help people in need. Responsibilities: (Preferred but not required) -Mentors and influences who are well connected to the communities, donors and corporate sponsors/ donors. -Experience in FUNDRAISING. -Visionary leadership abilities and dedication to improving services and outcomes for women, children, youth and families who needs our help. -Desire to bring diverse perspectives, energy, knowledge and skills to the Board. -Experience in one or more of the following areas: finance, communications, research and policy, organizational development or a legal background with a focus in child advocacy. -Ability to meet the minimum time, commitment, and finances including monthly board meetings. -Provide perspective and input to the President, VP, and Treasurer. -Join us with creating community development programs, fundraisers and community engagement events. -Participate in donor development through various strategies and engage members of the community in supporting the agency’s work. -The willingness to sign a non disclosure agreement. Experience with managing a non profit preferred but not required. Board members serve a two-year term that is renewable. We have quarterly in-person meetings in the Orlando area. There will be the general meeting this weekend then once we go over applications, a one on one interview with our Vice president and other board members soon after. - Daytona 500 Volunteers needed!!
UDC will be working one or multiple concession stands so that we can raise funds for our trip Haiti. This day will be a busy one and we appreciate any and every person that can attend this event! More about our trip to Haiti: UDC will be volunteering to assist a summer camp in Haiti teach and mentor children. We will be leaving this summer and will post more details very soon. - (Rescheduled) New Year Updates.....and Event & Program Planning
**Due to bad weather last week, we have rescheduled our New Year Update to 02/10** It's a new Year, with wonderful new possibilities, and projects. We have started getting support from different areas, and getting ready to start our Job & Language Programs. But we need members with fresh ideas, to help us find new ways, to help those in need. So come on out.....enjoys some snacks.....and lets make plans to make 2019 an incredible year!!!
