South County Trail Bike Ride. Westchester, NY
The bicycle ride for Saturday November 15, 2008 has been cancelled due to forecasted inclement rainy weather as forecasted by www.accuweather.com website link provided below:
Now according to the accuweather forecast there is a 31% chance of thunderstorms as well as 0.84 inch rain participation with wind gusts up to 32mph; obviously under such circumstances it would be inappropriate to have a fun day trip outing for this upcoming Saturday.
However, for those able to make it and to give everyone else an additional day to RSVP; as well as those who prefer bicycle riding on Sunday only; the rain date for the bicycle ride originally schedued for Saturday will be on the following day this weekend on Sunday, 16 November 2008.
I will need to have those people still interested in bicycle riding for the newly scheduled assigned rain date for Sunday, 16 November 2008 to RSVP reply respond so I can have an accurate tally of how many bicycle riders there will be for Sunday, 16 November 2008 bicycle ride. Everything else will be the same from the meeting time (1100am) , meetup place (by the large swimming pool) as well as the bicycle route.
To keep one updated for this Sunday's updated weather forecast please feel free to click on the supplied www.accuweather.com forecast link below:
The weather this Sunday will be sunny and about 53 degrees so make sure to bring cold weather gear/helmet and also make sure to bring your digital cameras for those photography buffs looking to take some absolutely stellar photography and be sure to bring your bag lunch with water to stay nourished and energized for all day adventuresome fun.
A very leisurely autumn bicycle ride perfect for exploring some of the finest autumn foliage that Tibbets Brook Park(tibbets lake), Redmond Park, V. Everett Macy Park(woodlands lake), Tarrytown Reservoir in Westchester can potentially offer participating cyclists the autumns fall colorful splendor along the South County Bicycle Trail in Westchester County, New York.
Everyone is welcome of course and the ride is on relatively flat and rolling level terrain with the routed distance variable from 15 to 25 miles depending on how adventureous explorationwise one is the day of bicycle ride.
Check out the website link provided just below:
As you will hopefully see, there is something here along the proposed bicycle route for everyone of all cycling capabilities, interests and experience to make it both varied and interesting for all participating for a perfect Sunday days trip outing.
Meetup will be in Tibbets Brook Park at 11:00am by the large swimming pool in Tibbetts Brook Park along County Park Road on the same side as the Tennis Courts.
All I ask is you simply RSVP yes/no with a simple reply response here on the message board. As always, I said everyone is welcome so if you would like to bring the usual friends you enjoy cycling with that is not a problem just give me a tally and a heads up of how many will be participating with you on Sunday in your group.
For those using the MTA subway use the number 1 Broadway - 7 Avenue Local line follow the station schedule using the web link included below:
Get off at the terminus; 242 street at Van Cortland Park and head northward inside of Van Cortland Park starting by the Van Cortland Lake taking the paved Putnam bicycle trail to get to Tibbets Brook Park start point (couple miles) allow about 45 minutes to enjoy the fall foliage to starting point and feel free to take pictures if time permits in the morning.
For those of you coming from New Jersey by car one of the quickest ways is to take the George Washington Bridge to the Henry Hudson Parkway up to the Van Cortland Park and then using the Saw Mill River Parkway to get to exit #4 for the Midland Ave. Exit; where one makes a right onto Midland Ave. and then making another right onto Teresa Ave. and then another final right onto County Park Rd. Follow County Park Rd. all the way around past the soccer fields on your right and one should see the swimming pool on ones left (if you see the tennis courts on your right you have passed the swimming pool and need to turn around).
I have also included a website link included below showing where the meetup start is located at:
One should be able to make out in the picture the swimming pool as well as the tennis courts for referencing purposes; just zoom in/out for any further needed relative positional referencing.
Hope to see you all there Sunday morning at 11:00am please be there on time and remember to RSVP in advance.
P.S.: The Accuweather.com website shows the weather forecast for this upcoming Sunday to be without rain and the high temperature to reach a balmy 53 degrees. The temperature according to accuweather.com temperature forecasting is going to trend lower within five days so next saturdays high temperature forecast will be 39 degrees.
Click on provided Accuweather website link to see the temperature forecast:
(Now that is really cold, 39 degrees high in comparison to a high of 53 degrees)
For those unable to make it on Sunday stay tuned for details for another bicycle ride from Tarrytown Reservoir to Yorktown Heights, New York hopefully the weather will cooperate this time around.
