Part-time ad-hoc Quantitative Data Analyst sought
Aptivate ( are looking for a quantitative data analyst to support the evaluation of Digital Citizen Engagement projects in Uganda and Brazil (and possibly also two others in India and Cameroon).

This is a new project and detailed planning is still underway, but we expect the data analyst will be required for a relatively intense 2-3 weeks in April, a further 2-3 weeks in July, and there may be ad-hoc less critical work required outside of these windows.

The analyst will work in close collaboration with a team of ICT-for-development practitioners and researchers (from a partnership including Aptivate, the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) and ICA-UK) to:
• Refine (quality check and cleanse) large datasets
(for example, beneficiary feedback results, mobile telecoms raw data, survey replies etc.)
• Identify and answer questions on the character and impact of citizen-engagement initiatives through the use of large data sets using appropriate statistical techniques
• Design new data collection instruments
• Communicate the results of the analysis to non-technical stakeholders

• You will be fluent in R and/or STATA.
• You will have experience in working with large data sets, ideally in the social sciences.
• Ideally you will have or hope to obtain an MSc or PhD in a numerate or social science discipline, but we welcome applications from candidates who do not have a degree but can demonstrate significant experience in a statistics related field.
• An interest in International Development and/or citizen engagement projects for supporting government transparency, accountability and improved service delivery is a bonus.
• You should be available to start work immediately.
• The ideal candidate would be based in or near Brighton or London, but we will consider people in other locations (however an initial meeting in Brighton or London would probably be required at the start of each phase of work).

If you are interested please send an email with a recent CV and a BRIEF outline of your relevant experience/skills no later than April 4th to:
