We are starting the Clojure meetup again! It has been an interesting few months, and we are back with a new host and sponsor. Our new meetup location is in Lehi at the Peak Ventures offices. Hopefully that will be easier for the people of the northern regions. Our new sponsor is TaxBit. TaxBit is working to help make filing taxes easier for people who trade cryptocurrencies. If you trade crypto, you have probably run into this and know what a problem it is. This month we will to hear from Seth House on algebraic datatypes and complexity in programming. This is a reprised version of a talk he gave last year at LambdaConf, and I am excited to cover this topic. As usual, dinner will be provided.

Rich Hickey has developed a following by giving some of the best talks on computer science the Universe has ever known. Period. Simple Made Easy The Value of Values The Language of the System Hammock Driven Development Are We There Yet? Deconstructing the Database Recently the tone and purpose of his talks (Maybe Not, 2017 Conj Keynote) have changed to a defensive posture in response to the growing support for statically typed functional languages and libraries and criticisms. Join us for a discussion on the direction of Clojure and the state of functional programming and how Clojure fits into that paradigm.

This month our beloved member, Sam Miller, will be speaking on the difficulty of naming things (the second hardest problem in computer science) and some strategies to help us name things effectively. If you have been to any of Sam's talks in the past you know how much we can learn from his presentations. As usual, dinner will be provided.
