• Let's talk about IRON: Everything plant-based eaters need to know!

Are you getting enough IRON in your plant-based diet? (NOTE: This event notice is from Brigitte Gemme, the Organizer of Vancouver Plant-Based Nutrition and Cooking Meetup Group [https://www.meetup.com/Vancouver-Plant-Based-Nutrition-and-Cooking/]. Please reply to her with any questions as she is the organizer and host of this event.) Also NOTE - you can RSVP here but to pay for the event, please follow this link: https://www.meetup.com/Vancouver-Plant-Based-Nutrition-and-Cooking/events/257006462/ *** Happy New Year! I am thrilled to be the organizer of this community of plant-based eaters and I look forward to learning more about plant-based nutrition and cooking alongside you in 2019. Let's start the year right by talking about iron! I have invited registered dietitian Pamela Fergusson, PhD, to speak to us about this topic that is an important one in her practice. Iron deficiency is a very common issue among omnivores and plant-based eaters alike, and a particular concern for women and athletes. Do you get enough? How to get more (if needed) from plant-based sources? What's the deal with heme and non-heme sources? I hope you can join us for this Meetup. It's happening on Thursday, January 24th at 6:30 pm near Cambie and 16th Avenue in Vancouver. REGISTER HERE: https://www.meetup.com/Vancouver-Plant-Based-Nutrition-and-Cooking/events/257006462/ NOTE: The ticket price of $15 covers the speaker's honorarium, room rental, and the Meetup's costs. Light plant-based refreshments are included, however, there will not be a full dinner served. (You can bring your own food if desired - no animal products please.) Please do not delay in registering! There is a minimum of 10 people registered (+ me) for the event to go forward. Good events happen because people commit to attending them. (If the minimum is not met, those with tickets will be refunded.) REGISTER HERE: https://www.meetup.com/Vancouver-Plant-Based-Nutrition-and-Cooking/events/257006462/ Stay tuned for upcoming Meetups on the following topics: knife skills (February), salt (March), and aquafaba (April). MORE ABOUT THE CONVERSATION DINNERS: The vision and purpose of VEGAN Vancouver Conversation Dinners: · Meet others in Vancouver who want to connect through plant-based food and meaningful, more deeper conversations · Transcend the vegan and plant-based conversation beyond the typical norm, which in turn could transform our perspectives · Discuss and share (without concern of judgment and in a safe environment) the fears, disappointments, and challenges of becoming vegan or becoming meatless · Experience and celebrate what it means to live a vegan (or transitioning to vegan) lifestyle · Create a community of people who support and celebrate each other’s differences and cultures · Build a community of hosts and dinners throughout Metro Vancouver These events are typically smaller gatherings (held at member’s homes). They are potluck events and we'll create a different food theme for each dinner.
