• VR & AR: Legal Aspects of #TheNextEvolution

As new technologies evolve and get adopted, questions arise about the legal implications of the new capabilities. Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality are not immune to this universal truth. From the use of copyrighted images and graphics in virtual worlds to the liability issue surrounding injuries when people are immersed, there are more questions than answers currently. Who owns a digital/virtual representation of physical space, or the ability to place digital content within a physical space? Can people protect themselves from having others create digital representations of them? What issues do entrepreneurs in the VR & AR space need to be concerned about when starting up their company? Come to the VR/AR Chicago MeetUp on July 10th to hear our experts discuss the current issues, and get your questions answered during our Q&A panel discussion. What's The Format: We start with informal networking and technology demonstrations, then host a panel discussion to answer audience questions, and we end with more networking and technology demonstrations. The conversation will start with a primary topic, but ultimately take us wherever it goes. We keep it simple and informal - this MeetUp is about you, our members, and not the host or presenters. Come and try some new technology, get your questions answered, and take your next step in XR Technology. 5:30-6:00 – Demos and Networking 6:00-6:30 – Introductions 6:30-6:40 – Intellectual Property 6:40-6:50 – Startups & Entrepreneurship 6:50-7:00 – Gaming & Liability 7:00-8:00 – Panel Discussion and Q&A 8:00-8:30 – Networking & Demos Host: Mark Persaud - VRARA Chicago & Moonshot by Pactera Confirmed Panel: J.D. • VR & AR: #TheNextEvolution in HealthCare

Virtual and augmented reality have the potential to revolutionize healthcare as an industry in ways that are almost impossible to measure. One aspect is the delivery of medical training, both in the classroom and through continuing education, or surgical practice through immersive technology during the days leading up to a procedure. 3D visualization allows for improvements in diagnostics, as well as patient empowerment, allowing non-medical professionals to visualize – in three dimensions – what certain conditions and procedures actually mean. Telehealth also becomes much more powerful when presented through AR and VR – with physical context available to both the medical professional and the patient. Even going beyond the medical industry, there’s VR based exercise programs, AR based cooking instructions, and even VR based meditation programs (which make it easier to block out the outside world distractions) – which all contribute to overall health and wellness. Come learn about these topics and hear form experts working in this field right now, here in Chicago. What's Happening: Thank you to 1871 for hosting us. We'll follow our normal format - described below - and introduce our audience to VR & AR and a new industry. • VR & AR: #TheNextEvolution in Training

Humans learn by doing. Simulation – placing a person in the context of a situation, to teach them how to respond - has been part of industrial training from the beginning. Pilots spend days in simulators before ever taking charge of commercial jets, because simulation presents an opportunity to place the pilot in a situation that would be too dangerous or expensive to replicate in the real world. Virtual reality and augmented reality present the opportunity to deliver simulation training at scale, and across industries. Current use cases include subject matter as varied as handling sensitive human resources issues, emergency response to a chemical spill, and doctors training on a new procedure. Come learn from pioneers in the industry that are currently delivering VR and AR training capabilities. What's Happening: Thank you to 1871 for hosting us. • Come Learn Why XR Technology is #TheNextEvolution in Communication.

History demonstrates that communication methods change society. Inventions like the printing press, the telephone, the world wide web, and mobile computing have all brought massive shifts in the way people live, work, and learn. With spatial computing and XR technology, we're on the verge of the next evolution in human communication, where the rectangular screens people have been staring at for the last 40 years are being transformed. Augmented Reality is already starting to place digital information in the context of the physical world that surrounds us. Virtual Reality allows people to be fully immersed into graphic environments. We can now control digital objects by speaking, gesturing, or even reaching out and grabbing just like we would with physical objects. Come learn about where immersive technology is now and where it's headed through 2019 and beyond. What's Happening: Thank you to 1871 for hosting us. For this special session of VR/AR Chicago, the format is going to be a little different. We'll be presenting an overview of the current state of VR and AR technology, the hardware, the software, the current adoption by consumers and industry, and even the latest news coming out of CES. We'll then open it up for Q&A, and as always we'll have networking time, and hands on demonstrations of VR and AR hardware for audience members to try. What's The Format: We start with informal networking and technology demonstrations, then host a presentation on the current state of immersive technology, followed by discussion to answer audience questions. We will end with more networking and technology demonstrations. This MeetUp is about you, our members. Come and try some new technology, get your questions answered, and take your next step in XR Technology. 5:30-6:00 - Demos and Networking 6:00-6:15 - Introductions. 6:15-7:00 - Featured Presentation 7:00-7:30 - Q&A Discussion 7:30-8:15 - Networking & Demos 8:15-8:30 - Cleanup and Good Bye Host: Matt Wren - BundlAR & VRARA Chicago Confirmed Panel: Gareth Davies - BUNDLAR Keisha Howard - HTC / BlazeBreakers / SugarGamers August Wasilowski - LiveCGI Confirmed Demonstrations: Oculus Rift Virtual Reality Headset (more to come...) ****************** Register Here ****************** https://www.eventbrite.com/e/vrar-chicago-meetup-tickets-54349034425 Check in takes place via EventBrite, so please make sure to get a ticket using the EventBrite link above.
