What is volkssporting?
Do you enjoy walking for exercise or pleasure? Do you like being outdoors, seeing new places and meeting nice people? If so, volkssporting may be for you. The Vaca Valley Volks Walking Club, Vacaville, California was formed in 1986 to sponsor and promote healthy outdoor exercise in the local area. Volkssporting events can include walking, biking, swimming and cross country skiing.
Who are we?
The Vaca Valley Volks club is a local member of the California Volkssport Association (CVA), which in turn is a member of the American Volkssport Association (AVA). AVA in turn is part of the international IVV (International Volkssport Association).
What kind of events do we have?
The majority of the events are walks and are called "volksmarch" - a people's walk. A volksmarch is non-competitive and is for singles or the whole family (even the dog at many events). It is an adventure in health, recreation, fellowship and fun. It is not a contest of speed or endurance. Participants do the walk at their own pace but must complete the event before the finish time. All of our events are sanctioned by the American Volkssport Association (AVA). Most walks have 5K/10K (3 mile/6 mile) options.
Where are events held?
Although there are clubs though out California and the United States, we work most closely with other AVA clubs between San Francisco and Lake Tahoe to coordinate our schedules so walks do not conflict. Each club plans several walks per year in their local area, then makes them available to all clubs and everyone is invited. The walks are normally centered around a local landmark, activity or point of interest. Some short travel times are necessary to get to areas of interest, and car pooling is encouraged.
