Flash Meetup: Stanley Park!

  • Aug 25, 2013 · 5:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

This year is Stanley Park's 125th anniversary (actually next month). There are events throughout the park, but what better way to experience it than by walking its trails, sensing the sunlight filtering through the trees and marveling at some of the vistas.

So join us for a nice long walk and as we try to make photographs of big trees, floating vegetation, rocks, a bridge, wild flowers and maybe even critters!

We'll meet by the Lost Lagoon (see map!) at 5:30pm. We'll wait about 15 minutes and then take off.

The Walk-about

The itinerary: find some birds on Lost Lagoon, cut through the woodlands to Beaver Lake, see Lions Gate Bridge from underneath and take a break at Prospect Point. Then head back. The way - either thru the park or along the seawall - will depend on what we feel like.

Note: I won't kid you folks, the whole loop can be up to 10km, and can take 2 to 3hr depending on our photographic hurry.

The Aim

The function of the group is to learn and practice the techniques of photography. This involves learning photography not only from your guides but also by sharing knowledge with your group-mates. The intention is also to organize and get to know new people. The attendant size of the meets will be small so participants can have the opportunity to get to know all their group-mates and spend time with a guide. If you select to attend a meet and then cannot make it, please be courteous to others in the group and change your RSVP status as soon as possible to allow others who might be on the waiting list the chance to participate.

The Après-Meet

Please feel comfortable in posting your photographs and advising others; critical appraisal is helpful. What will also be appreciated are ratings and, especially, comments to individual meets and the group dynamic as a whole. This is important because it will ultimately add value to our meetings and improve our experience.

Thanks for the ecology lesson! Rob and I are available for birthdays, weddings, bar mitzvahs and office parties. Our rendition of Girl From the North Country is quite moving.

Would love to but not sure if I have time this afternoon. If I can you will see me there. It will get a lot darker within the park, especially going from Beaver Lake up to the Lions Gate bridge around 7pm so plan for that.

"At the end of..." What does this mean? Where are we to meet?

We'll meet at the park bench on the Lost Lagoon path, at the end of North Lagoon Dr. Click on the Google map link to see exactly where; it's near the #19 bus stop.
