Talk Title: Message Queues in AWS – What Are the Options?
Presenter: Dr. Peter Smith, Principal Software Engineer, ACL.
Description:
This is the story of ACL’s message queues. Our SaaS product recently switched from a third-party message queue, to using Amazon’s Simple Queue Service (SQS). However, that’s not where the story ends - there are other options to consider, and we already know our current solution needs to improve.
In this talk, we’ll start with the motivation for using message queues in your architecture, then will examine some typical usage patterns. Next, we’ll discuss the specific “Proof of Concept” evaluation we performed using AmazonMQ, Kinesis, and SQS+FIFO, to figure out the best long-term solution.
AWS Level: Intermediate, with some software architecture experience being helpful.
