What we're about

Welcome to this book club! There will be a variety of books, somehow related to animals, even if only in a peripheral way. There should be something for almost everyone: fiction, nonfiction, children's books, romance novels, autobiographies, cookbooks, academic books, horror, spiritual, fantasy, sci-fi, history, veterinary manuals, philosophy, psychology, ethology, ethics, graphic novels, comic books, peer-reviewed academic journal articles, newspaper articles, booklets, pamphlets, short stories, poetry, and more. Check out the discussions by scrolling down this page, as well as the "Polls" and "Message boards" by clicking on "More". Feel free to give suggestions for books, venues, dates and times by PM'ing (private messaging) the organizer, or by writing on the Message board.

This book was published on May 4th, 2021 and is the true story of how a speech language pathologist trained her dog to use AAC buttons to communicate. AAC stands for Augmentative and Alternative Communication and is used to help babies, some people with autism, and toddlers with language delays to communicate. You can watch her channel here:

Here is another dog that is using AAC to communicate with humans:

We will meet online using the teleconferencing video service Jitsi, which is linked here. You don't need to download anything to install onto your computer, and you don't need to pay anything or register to use Jitsi (at least that's what it seemed like the last time I used Jitsi for online meetings!)

You don't need to live in the Vancouver area or even Canada to participate.
