This month's meetup will be held on Wed, May 20th and feature the fantastic Todd Smith, an experience designer who believes we can do better and be better to each other in the web industry. We had the chance to listen to Todd speak at Style and Class (http://styleandclass.ca) (another great digital meetup) a couple months ago, so we know this one's going to be awesome. Hope you can make it and bring some of your work buds. The more we can spread this message to make our community stronger, the better we become together.
6:00–6:30 Mix and imbibe
6:30–7:00 Todd Smith, Without Agency
7:00–7:30 Mini workshop on improving our industry
7:30–8:00 Clean up and head to Romer's Burger Bar (Mainland St)
As a project manager, talent, motivation and perspective are only a few components of the gig. Todd believes that success lay in "grit"; the ability to create a plan and the energy to hold a project together if it doesn't work as intended, but also in the ability to say, "no". Todd will speak about the value of observation, listening closely for nuanced information, developing a personal code of ethics, and championing safe and nurturing work environments.
Todd Smith is an experience designer and retired advertiser. A Vancouver transplant by way of Copenhagen, Manila, and Edmonton, he spends his days helping businesses and NGOs create better digital experiences. An outdoor explorer and runner, when he’s not working you’re likely to spot him on the false creek seawall, hiking the north shore mountains or searching local markets for that "perfect" ingredient.
