The Stoics of Vancouver group is for everyone with an interest in applying Stoicism in their own life. Stoic philosophy aims for a "good flow of life"--simply put, flourishing--by holding up virtue as the only good, vice as the only evil, and sociability and reason as the surest guides for how to conduct ourselves.
No way of life provides a 100% guarantee of happiness, success, or goodness. Stoicism's promise is that by letting go of things out of one's control and taking those in one's control seriously, every burden becomes more manageable. This allows the student to put energy into any project in a way that's free from the usual anxieties, and flexible in the face of setbacks. It also gives a connection to our fellow beings based on cosmopolitanism--citizenship of the whole world and participation in making it more just.
If living a freer life appeals to you, then you are welcome. Perfect enlightened sages are welcome to apply, but everyone else, come as you are!
In sum, Be Real, Be Respectful, Be Kind, Be Safe. Harassment or denigration of others will not be tolerated. This is a place of learning, encouragement, and mutual aid, not a debate club. No one is expected to agree about everything--certainly Stoics never have historically--but disagreements will be worked out with reason and compassion and without sneers or put-downs.
