Bard on the Beach

I set this up with a tentative date and show (Midsummer Night's Dream) to see if anyone is interested in drawing Bard on the Beach.
Tickets are required, around $35. If there is enough people going we can maybe even try and get a group rate.
Also, if you are interested please leave a preference for which play you'd prefer.

Super fun!!! Thank you Dino for organizing this event!! Excellent choice. Also drawing right before the show was very enjoyable!!! Sorry, I had to leave a little earlier :)

Yes !! This is a wonderful thing to do as a group. We could bring a picnic lunch and discuss the play afterwards, walk around the area and sketch as well. I have a car and would be happy to help anyone who needs transport, however I think this is an accessible location by bus as well.

I'll be around to draw before the show, too. Plan to get there around noon. I'm wearing a mohawk, shouldn't be hard to spot!

Weather permitting I plan to sketch the site before the show, so if you'd like to join me I'll be there around 12:30.

I like Midsummer Night's Dream but would be happy to see another play too!

I'd be happy to see this play or Cymbeline. either one, I'll go see the other on my own.

I saw this play about a month ago, at Bard, and it was one of my favourites! I think you'll all love it and the Steampunk costumes will be fun to sketch.

I might come but will decide last minute. We might go hiking or camping or both...

Having spent considerable time in the performing arts, I think it would be extremely distracting to other audience members, and therefore to the actors. In effect there would be two shows, the one on stage, the other in the audience with the sketchers. I think the arts should respect each other, especially when there is a paying audience. Having said that, it would be a lot of fun and challenge to try and sketch a closed rehearsal.

It's one of my favourite plays and I'm sure Bard is going to do an amazing job with it. I don't want to miss it! The problem is I may have people coming in from out of town and other things that weekend that haven't quite settled yet. So I may well see you there, but can't keep Dino hanging for ticket purchase.

I'd also like to share a blog post by my friend Julia, who went and drew a performance of "As You Like It" in New York.

I hope this gets everyone excited about drawing!

I would guess MSND is a good one for set and costumes. I saw "Equivocation" in July and it's excellent, but a very minimal set, so not much to draw.

I wish I was going to be in town for this event, but maybe another time. Have a great time. I love costumes-- and the play as well.

Thanks Dino for sharing that link, I would like to attend
MSND I think that one would be in their own space and sketch, watch and listen the brain exercise would be valuable.. The sketches in the link you sent are wonderful and inspiring and this is an opportunity for quick life drawing . I am in

You're welcome Janette, I'm glad you're in! Yes, I agree, the watching, listening, interpreting, and drawing all at the same time is great for the brain! I will be purchasing tickets for the show this weekend. If you're interested in sitting in the same area with the group you can find my email in one of the recent comment I posted and contact me that way. Looking forward to it!

Hi everyone, thanks for all your comments and input.
I will be buying tickets for the show on August 17th 2pm. You can contact me before Friday (the 8th) via email [masked] if you'd like to buy the seats together so we can sit in the same area.
I've never been to a Bard on the Beach event before but from my past experiences drawing performers and musicians, it tends to instill a different energy into the performance rather than cause distraction (performers tend to put on their best).

I didn't realize i had signed up for this-- I will be out of town at that time.

FYI - as I volunteer at the Bard, I just want to give you all a heads up. 1) the village opens only 1 hour before the performance, and the performance starts at 2 pm sharp (or 7:30 for evening show). 2) during the performance, it might be a bit too dark to draw and the show is so engaging, it might be difficult to draw moving actors 3) Intermission is only 20 min and crazy busy -e.g. bathroom/consession lineups. 4) Studio Stage (smaller tent) show sells out very early and some Main Stage shows sells out too.

I've already signed up for another meetup on Aug 17 for the Floating Home Community at Delta. I'll be interested in this meet up if it is held on another date.
