What we're about

This group is inspired by the immensely popular Veggie Hikers Meetup groups in Los Angeles, California (started by Manish) and Portland, Oregon (started by me, Natalia). The idea is simple: we meet up to enjoy a hike (or a walk) in the Vancouver area, then we top off the experience with a delicious meal at a nearby vegetarian, vegan or veggie-friendly restaurant. Beautiful nature, time outdoors and delicious vegetarian or vegan food! We are friendly and easy-going, and we love it when veggie hikers propose and organize events.

This is a group for positive people, who love the outdoors, want to meet wonderful people and want to bring their best self to the hikes.

Note: You don't have to be vegetarian or vegan to be a part of Vancouver Veggie Hikers & Activities Meetup Group. However, you are expected to respect the choice and lifestyle of those who are because one aim of this group is to provide an environment for veg*n outdoor-minded people to hike and have fun. Eating meat/fish/dairy at veggie hiker events is not welcome and will result in you being excused from the group.

I've been there a few times and always happy to support them whenever possible. Diane Marsh and Stephen Wiltshire are a wonderful couple and have saved/supported so many animals and more at their home, which is also a sanctuary. They always warmly welcome volunteer support. So please feel free to connect with them at their site https://happyherd.org/ Thanks for reviewing this. Please feel free to invite your family and friends. Cheers Viral DL

Parking lot at walk-n campsite

Intermediate hike, Please RSVP ONLY if you can keep up with the group during intermediate hikes. .. this is a safety/security issue. I don't feel comfy when people hike alone: i've seen people faint, we have had an encounter with wasps/bees recently at Diez Vista, and it's really easy to turn an ankle or have some other unexepcted health thing pop up. -Dogs allowed (but may need to be carried up rocky areas) -Bring the ten essentials -May be rescheduled if rainy (slippery surfaces is not great when walking along cliffs) -Bring plenty of water, layers, sunscreen, There is no need to RSVP "No", if you are not attending. We only need to know who IS attending. The "No" feature is there for people who need to change their RSVP. (THIS IS NOT A BEGINNER EVENT. DO NOT OVER-ESTIMATE YOUR ABILITIES PLEASE OR UNDERESTIMATE THE HIKE). You, not the trip organizer, The Vancouver Veggie Hiking meetup group, nor anyone else, are entirely responsible for your own safety. By RSVPing "yes" for this event, you acknowledge and agree that (i) you have read, understand and agree to the foregoing, including the linked liability waiver and group pages; (ii) you are aware that by signing up for this event you are waiving certain legal rights you may have; and (iii) by clicking the RSVP "yes" button you are adopting the RSVP "yes" button as your signature. Here is the disclaimer that you will also need to read and approve of...https://www.meetup.com/Vancouver-Veggie-Hikers/about/ Here's more info about the hike https://www.vancouvertrails.com/trails/stawamus-chief/ Please have a clear facial picture in your profile and be sure to let someone know that you are going on this hike and your expected return time, for safety. Please be aware that Van Veggie Hikers and Activities Meetup Group is not a professional organization and although the organizers make every possible effort to ensure the safety of event participants, the volunteers leading events are not professional guides. We are simply taking advantage of the Meetup organization and using Meetup as a way of bringing like minded individuals together to share in an enjoyable outdoor experience. Carpooling: (Post to discussion area) Please carpool to events whenever possible. The high cost of gas and maintaining a vehicle make this a very sensible option for vehicle owners and allows those without a car to get to the events. While vehicle owners are free to set their own reasonable fee for carpooling, it is typically suggested that passengers offer the driver $5.00 per hour of driving (includes mileage and vehicle wear & tear). Passengers, please ensure you show up on time and bring an extra bag for wet/muddy footwear and clothing. Also, please make every effort to get to a convenient pick up place for your driver!
