It’s not always pretty. It is always surprising.
That’s the take away from 12+ years of applying human centered design to real and messy social contexts.
For the past 12 years, InWithForward has worked alongside young people in care, families in crisis, women fleeing domestic violence, lonely seniors, street-involved adults, and folks with developmental disabilities to co-design new kinds of social services, networks, and platforms.
Come meet Dr. Sarah Schulman (founding partner) and Charlotte Secheresse (service designer) as they share case studies from their work abroad and here in Vancouver. Learn about how InWithForward weaves together service design, anthropology, social psychology, and transformative leadership. Hear about the limits of design. And find out how you can get involved locally. We’ve got jobs, fellowships, volunteering opportunities, and partnerships!
Sarah is a Founder of InWithForward, and its Social Impact Lead. As a sociologist, Sarah is fascinated by what makes individuals, families, and policymakers tick. She’s worked with federal, regional, and local governments in 6 countries to shift how policies are made and measured. From[masked], Sarah co-ran InWithFor and worked with The Australian Centre for Social Innovation to launch 3 new social solutions including the award-winning Family by Family. From[masked], Sarah was the Youth Project Lead at Participle, one of the first social design shops in the world.
She holds a Doctorate in Social Policy from Oxford University, where she was a Rhodes Scholar, and a Masters of Education from Stanford University. In 2015, Sarah became a Metcalf Foundation Innovation Fellow. This is Sarah’s fourth start-up organization. Fun facts: Sarah was once a sting agent. And she’s a mediocre tap dancer.
A Service Designer who is certainly at your service. Charlotte is fun-loving and excited to try anything new. Just last year she finished up a social design project in India! Originally from France, her hometown is famous for having two cookie factories. Charlotte is also famous for bringing cookies from said factories.
