  • Adobe Falls Cleanup with The Vanlife App

    Adobe Falls Road

Join The Vanlife App and I Love A Clean San Diego (ILACSD) for a litter cleanup at Adobe Falls on Saturday, May 18th 9am-12pm! We will pick up litter and debris from the riverbed at Adobe Falls in Del Cerro to divert waste and pollution from the San Diego Bay watershed and preserve the area’s natural beauty! Please note that this event is not suitable for children. Ages 15 and up suggested. The cleanup location is in a riverbed surrounded by dense trees and shrubbery, is accessed by a steep hill, and does not have established paths. Come prepared to get your hands dirty and explore a hidden treasure! ILACSD will bring all the cleanup supplies and explain the impact of this cleanup on our watershed. This is a great opportunity for students and families to learn ways to protect our local environment! We encourage volunteers to bring your own reusable items such as water bottles, work gloves, and buckets to promote zero-waste practices and help us in our mission to have a zero waste, litter free and environmentally engaged San Diego region! All volunteers are required to fill out a waiver form to participate and anyone under the age of 18 needs a waiver signed by their parent or guardian. See you there!

  • City Council Vote on Vehicle Habitation

    Reptile Super Show

Is living in a van a crime? If you answered "No!" keep reading! The San Diego City Council is meeting Tuesday May 14, to discuss the mayor's proposed vehicle habitation ordinance. The item is scheduled to be discussed in the afternoon session starting at 2:00 pm PDT. The mayor has introduced this ordinance as "Emergency" which allows the City Council to enact the ruling immediately, without a public comment period! So the time is now to voice our concerns! Our Founder, Breanne Acio (@theladiesvan), will be onsite as a representative for the vanlife community, to fight for the protection of our lifestyle. If you want to participate, please join us at San Diego City Hall (202 C St, 12th floor). Can't make it? Then help us tell the City Council how we feel! PLEASE, send an email and call the SD City Council members, we have even included an easy to copy/paste email below for you to share! Thank you for your continued support! The Vanlife App Team Relevant Links: - Meeting Agenda: http://bit.ly/Council_meeting_agenda - Proposed Ordinance Language: http://bit.ly/vehiclehabitationordinance ___________________________________ If you need some help on what to say, just use the wording below: To: [masked], [masked], [masked], [masked], [masked], [masked], [masked], [masked], [masked] Subject: Vanlife is not a crime! Message: Dear Council Member, I am writing you because I am extremely concerned about the unethical, unconstitutional and inhumane Vehicle Habitation Ordinance on which you will be voting tomorrow, Tuesday May 14, 2019. As a concerned citizen and resident, I believe this bill is illogical and reactive, without necessary research and data to reasonably foresee the negative impact it will have on tens of thousands of lives in San Diego, houseless as well as housed. I am asking you to vote NO on this proposed ordinance for three primary reasons: (1) proper programs must be in place to safeguard the massive houseless population before forcing them out of shelter (vehicles) with no alternative; (2) it will have a negative impact on my quality of life by turning recreational activities my family enjoys into criminal activities after a certain time (e.g., pulling up to Mission Bay in our campervan to cook dinner, play games, and enjoy the sound of the water); (3) The law does not address the movement of digital nomads, who are generally middle class, but live in their homes on wheels (Campervans), and whom contribute to our community the same way other welcomed visitors do; and (4) with more time and research, our community can come up with less devastating ways to fix the problems that certain, high-income, neighborhoods have. The proposed Vehicle Habitation Ordinance will only cause the city more money (lawsuits) and more problems. There are more sustainable and less devastating solutions. This ordinance is reactive and discriminatory toward an already underserved population, and it will have unseen consequences for residents, as well. Please reject the Vehicle Habitation Ordinance. Sincerely, A Concerned Citizen

  • Vehicle Habitation Ordinance Meeting

    Reptile Super Show

***IMPORTANT*** We recently met on Fiesta Island to discuss possible solutions for the San Diego Mayor's proposed Vehicle Habitation Ordinance. The language for this draft municipal code is on the agenda to be discussed tomorrow, Wednesday, April 17th at 9 a.m. at the Public Safety and Livable Neighborhoods Committee of the City Council of the city of San Diego. • Meet-up and open discussion re vehicle habitation in San Diego.

Getting together as a community is always amazing. This time, let's get together and have a productive discussion about the proposed legislation to prohibit vehicle habitation in San Diego! Currently, vanlifers and road travelers are being characterized as drug addicted vagrants who defecate on the streets and take advantage of San Diego's kindness. We know this is not the case, but the media doesn't seem to be portraying that. Come meet us in the normal gathering spot on Fiesta Island to have an open discussion and work on creating a reasonable solution for everyone. Our story is not being heard, so we have to come together to tell it. See you there! See our official statement here: https://www.thevanlifeapp.com/advocacy
