Rescheduled: How Democracies Die - Book Chat

Boston Common

4.19 stars on GoodReads!

Grab a coffee and come down to the Boston Common on a fall day and join us to discuss this read. I'll set up a picnic blanket.

"Is our democracy in danger? Harvard professors Steven Levitsky and Daniel Ziblatt have spent more than twenty years studying the breakdown of democracies in Europe and Latin America, and they believe the answer is yes. Drawing on decades of research and a wide range of historical and global examples, from 1930s Europe to contemporary Hungary, Turkey, and Venezuela, to the American South during Jim Crow, Levitsky and Ziblatt show how democracies die--and how ours can be saved."

*Exact location in the Boston Common area will be posted closer to the day of the event.

*For us to feel comfortable attending this event, our need for safety and respect needs to be met.
-We ask that you only attend this event if you are vaccinated unless you have a legal exemption (immunocompromised, vaccine allergy, etc).
-We ask that you only attend if you have no symptoms of sickness and you have not been in contact with someone who has COVID-19.
-We ask that you wear a mask unless you are taking a quick sip of a drink or a quick bite of a snack.
-We ask that we space out from each other on the picnic blanket.

*If there's bad weather (rain, etc.) we'll move to an online platform.

The Owens sisters confront the challenges of life and love in this bewitching novel from New York Times bestselling author Alice Hoffman.

For more than two hundred years, the Owens women have been blamed for everything that has gone wrong in their Massachusetts town. Gillian and Sally have endured that fate as well: as children, the sisters were forever outsiders, taunted, talked about, pointed at. Their elderly aunts almost seemed to encourage the whispers of witchery, with their musty house and their exotic concoctions and their crowd of black cats. But all Gillian and Sally wanted was to escape.

Find out what happens in this bewitching tale.
