On the (3rd, normally 4th) Saturday of the Month, VegKC is having a Potluck at the "Dragon's Cozy Cave"!
EVENT DETAILS
For April, we will be doing a Spring themed potluck, so bring Spring inspired dishes, asparagus dishes, spring onion dishes, gnocchi, Hearty Miso Soup, Artichoke Spinach Dip. Or whatever floats your boat.
Please read the full event details before coming!
For privacy the venue address isn't listed publicly, please email one of the hosts via Meetup a few days before for directions.
Bring a tasty vegan dish. If you have a recipe you want to try, know how to make, or if you feel inclined to lighten things up a bit with a good salad, dessert, favorite dish associated with your heritage, or something else that intrigues you - feel free.
WHAT WILL WE DO?
This will be a relaxed and casual event in a cozy environment. We will mainly be eating the delicious food everyone brings, typically after about 30-60 minutes. There may be appetizers! There will definitely be good conversation ....
After dinner, the dishwasher will be empty, please scrape, rinse and rack your dishes and utensils to make cleanup easier.
We may follow dinner up with board games, a puzzle, a movie, or something like Mario Kart, depending on the crowd...
WHAT DO I BRING?
- Yourself, family and friends are welcome too. The event will be kid-friendly (VegKC events generally maintain an Alcohol-free environment).
- Comment here with what dish you intend to bring!
- Vegan food dish(es) with serving utensils:
Bring a tasty main dish, side dish, appetizer, or dessert.
Everything must be vegan (no dairy, no eggs, no honey, no animal products of any kind).
Each dish should be big enough to feed about 8 people, and you must bring one dish for every 1-2 guests.
We have a few raw and gluten-free members who may attend, so if inclined, feel free to bring that type of dish.
If you think you've got a spectacular dish you want everyone to try, bring enough for the RSVP list.
If you need ideas, there are a number of vegan recipe blogs and sites online - such as Gaz Oakley, The Minimalist Baker or VegWeb.com - conversation sometimes includes favorite recipe books, like "The Candle Cafe" or the "Horizons Restaurant" cookbook.
If you aren't comfortable in the kitchen yet, feel free to bring a vegan dish from your favorite restaurant or food bar!
- Feel free to bring a beverage for yourself or to share. There will be an electric hot water kettle and teas available.
- We have enough dishes and utensils for a moderate sized group (about 25).
Optionally - bring some easily packed reusable travel tableware if you have it.
- List of ingredients or a recipe or link/details in the comments: Helpful for those with food allergies, and curious chefs.
WHERE IS IT?
The potluck is at "Dragon's Cozy Cave". There is limited table seating, assorted couches and chairs, benches, cushions, and plenty of space to sprawl around casually and visit.
This is a private residence, so please be respectful of the space so that we may continue to host future events here!
This space is also home to a clowder of kitties, so please be mindful coming in and closing the door to keep our furry friends safe.
If you have cat allergies, give the organizers a heads up, we will try to vacuum extra well - time allowing, the hardwood floors also help.
HOW DO I GET THERE?
It is located near I-29 and Barry Road about 15 minutes North of downtown / the River Market, please email the organizers for directions before the event (Click on an event host, click "Chat with [name]").
If you would like a ride/carpool, you may post to the event. You are responsible for your communication/arrangements. Our members are friendly!
PARKING
Is in a residential area, please be mindful of leaving driveways and fire hydrants clear (the most open parking is probably half a block up on the next cross street - without any driveways on one side).
ACCESSIBILITY
It is a split level with stairs and no front railing - it is unfortunately not wheelchair friendly. There is a deck, but it is in rough shape, so if the weather is conducive, use at your own risk. The house is in reasonable shape, but gradually undergoing renovations.
