April Potluck Dinner with guest chef Phil Eherenman

PLEASE NOTE: This meetup was previously announced as starting at 7:30pm. This has been corrected to 6:30pm. 

Please join us for our regular monthly potluck for April. Everyone is welcome, including families, children, new vegetarians and vegans, and the "veg-curious". Our potlucks are free for anyone to attend, you don't have to be a VNA member.

This is our first-ever potluck up in Round Rock, so we're hoping a number of our members from there (or from far North Austin) will have a chance to come when they haven't in the past. Please bring a VEGAN dish that can serve 8 plus a serving utensil, as well as your own plate, utensils, and beverage. Also bring your recipe or a list of ingredients to help those with food sensitivities.

We'll be joined by special guest Phil Eherenman of, a certified Food for Life nutrition and cooking class instructor for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. He's coming all the way from Alaska to check out Austin, and wanted to attend our potluck while he was here. He'll be giving a brief cooking demo on how to make his low-fat hot "cheezy" sauce, made from nutritional yeast flakes and cashews.

DIRECTIONS TO SYCAMORE TRAIL: from I-35 or from Mo-Pac, head east on either Toll Road 45 or Louis Henna Drive (non-toll road that parallels 45). When you get to A.W. Grimes, turn left (north). Cross the intersection at Gattis School Road (you'll see a Randall's and other shops) and continue north to the next light. Turn right (east) on Logan (there is no left). Take Logan to its end and turn left onto Sycamore Trail (there is no right). Sycamore Trail itself makes one more left turn; now you're on Stephanie's block. Her house is in the middle of the block- a streetlight is in front of her house, a fire hydrant across the street (don't park on it), and her address is on the curb.

    I really enjoyed meeting Phil and hearing how to make his easy cheesy sauce and topping. I am glad to be part of a group that makes people from out of town welcome and part of the vegan family here in Austin.

    Chef Phil says, "I'll be making a hot cheezy sauce made from nutritional yeast flakes and cashews that I will be mixing with quinoa pasta in case anyone has gluten issues. I'll also make a "parmesan" cheeze made from almonds, nutritional yeast flakes and spices. Both of these non-dairy recipes are very easy to make and I've yet to meet anyone who doesn't love them. I have hand outs for both that people can take home". Thanks, Phil!
