The Ferry Bluff State Natural Area is a beautiful place for hiking and appreciating nature. It's located a few minutes from downtown Sauk City (about 35 miles northwest of Madison).
There's a parking area at the base of the trail. We'll meet there at noon, hike up the trail to the bluff that overlooks the Wisconsin River (Cactus Bluff), and enjoy a picnic lunch. Before the event I'll provide more logistical details (including carpooling options) to those who RSVP.
This event does not include any extreme hiking. It's about 20 minutes of hilly walking (each way) through the woods.
For more information on Ferry Bluff, visit the DNR's website.
There is no charge to attend this event.
What about kids?
Kids of all ages are welcome. Just make sure any kids you bring can hike the trail or be carried by you. Also be aware that there is a 300-foot bluff we'll be near.
What to bring:
Everyone is responsible for bringing their own lunch and plenty of water. You might also want to take along a blanket, insect repellent, sunscreen, and a camera.
What if it rains?
Unless there's a big storm, we'll meet as planned.
