HSUS Humane Lobby Day 2013

-posted by Dana-

Hi everyone—

The Humane Society of the United States holds lobby days each year. New York's lobby day is Wednesday April 17th. Lobby day gives us a chance to speak with our elected officials and their staff. The humane society will brief us beforehand. At first, I was nervous about doing this because I wasn't sure if I was knowledgeable enough to speak up. However, I realized that as long as I speak from the heart I can make a difference. In fact, just showing up to our state's capital on behalf of animals can speak volumes. We are showing our elected officials what matters to us. These are the people that we vote for (or not) and these are the people that should be representing us. I want my voice heard so I am attending this Lobby Day. There is a bus leaving from NYC on that day (if you don't want to drive there yourself) but you need to register and pay for that separately. Here is the link if anybody else wants to join.

Hope to see some of you there. :)

P.S. You MUST rsvp with the Humane Society to attend.
P.P.S. The bus leaves from NYC at 7:45 am

Humane Society Lobby Day New York was great!!! I'm sure I will go again next year and I hope many of you can join me. Although I was nervous at first, the HS gives out info on all bills we present to our elected officials. You don't have to be any kind of expert to briefly speak up on these bills. Anyone can do it!!! There was a great turn out, supposedly more people this year than last year. There is power in numbers, folks, so next year I hope even more people show up. Excellent!!!
P.s. when I have a chance I'll post info on the five bills proposed.

This is great! What are some of the key areas that will be addressed? (I was unable to open the the action.humanes link). Thanks!

Hi Regina, according to the website, we would be helping in the areas of puppy mills, shark finning, factory farming and more. However, the humane society chooses which bills we should really speak up on that day. They'll help us out.

Regina, I had trouble with the link as well so I changed it. Click on the new link and find our state. Hope this helps.

"What legislation will we be discussing?
There are many, many animal bills filed each year during the legislative session. We choose our priority bills for Humane Lobby Day based upon several factors, including their impact and chance of passage. There may be other animal protection topics/issues that are important to you, but focusing on the HLD selected bills we’ve chosen will make the most impact during your visit to the Capitol."

According to the HSUS rsvp link, we would be helping to protect animals from puppy mills, shark finning, factory farming and more!
