The 3rd Annual National Animal Rights Day, June 9th, 2013.

-posted by Eddie S.-

Established in 2011 by the "Our Planet. Theirs Too." Foundation in New York City, The National Animal Rights Day (NARD) has become an annual tradition in the US. On this day, we remember, and give a voice to, the billions of animals who die by human hands in this country every year.

We mourn their loss, reiterate their rights to live happy and free, and celebrate their existence in our lives.

The 3rd Annual National Animal Rights Day is growing! This year there are more speakers, more music, more outreach and information, more food and more fun! Thanks to animal lovers like you -this year a second city, Los Angeles, has been added!

12:00 noon: A ceremony to commemorate the billions of animals who lose their lives every year by the hand of humanity, and signing the Declaration of Animal Rights!

12:30-1:30: A free, open-to-all, yoga class which will focus on generating compassion for all beings - humans and animals alike!

1:30-5:00: Yummy free vegan food, vegan fashion show, live music, drum circles, street theatre, face painting, Capoeira, and other attractions!

Also raffles will be held- you could win one of many vegan and animal freindly prizes! For more information:

This is a free event! The organizers are accepting donations to cover the costs, anyone who contributes $5 or more is automatically entered in the raffle-you can donate here:

I hope to see some of you there <3

Such a moving ceremony- sorry for the technical difficulties with the sound sysem, the event was thrown on a shoestring budget. I think the message got out though and hopefully some people from this MeetUp won one of the raffle prizes : )

Was moving, as always. Once again disappointed not enough turnout, but nevertheless these are historic events. I always want to be there.

Everyone please be aware that MeetUp is calling me the 'Event Host' - I'm just a volunteer - Our fearless leader Jennifer just had me post the event for the groups information : ) Also for those of you who know and have met the Zaros' at meet ups, Christa and Don - you're in for a treat - Don has agreed to perform Samuel Barbers 'Adagio for Strings' live at the event during the Memorial. Don is an accomplished composer and performing musician as well as a music teacher. I think this will bring a new level of poignance and emotion to the opening ceremony- where we remember all of the non-human persons who have senselessly perished from our world.
